Lords of the Fallen's developer Hexworks has unveiled a laundry list of new improvements, quests, cosmetics, and more it's bringing to the game before the end of the year. Not to be confused with its 2014 predecessor of the same name, Lords of the Fallen launched last month to positive reception as it became one of the best non-FromSoftware Soulslikes of the past few years.

Right after Lords of the Fallen's launch last month Hexworks got right to work with rolling out patches and improvements, and even a Halloween-themed event. Titled Season of the Bleak, the Halloween event added a short questline players can partake in to earn a spooky pumpkin mask. Hexworks simultaneously released a similarly-themed and cleverly named Pumpkin Patch which reduced the density of enemies in some areas, added full crossplay, made improvements to Lords of the Fallen's New Game Plus mode, and helped patch up the game's performance issues.

Not even a full month since Lords of the Fallen's release, Hexworks has announced extensive plans for the game through the rest of 2023 with a new roadmap. Weekly updates will provide improvements to performance and stability, co-op, and PvP, and will also increase the difficulty of some of Lords of the Fallen's bosses. Perhaps most importantly, Hexworks provided insight on a slew of free questlines and unlockable cosmetics all coming to Lords of the Fallen before the end of the year. The game will add three new armor sets with their related questlines to accompany them, 12 new spells, inventory expansions, new Grevious Strike finishers, New Game Plus modifiers, and a whole lot more.

Everything Coming to Lords of the Fallen By The End of 2023

  • New Questline Event
  • Umbral Armor Set and Questline
  • Radiant Armor Set and Questline
  • Rhogar Armor Set and Questline
  • New Spells Pack 1 and 2
  • Inventory Expansion
  • Stash Expansion
  • New Grievous Strikes
  • Additional Secret Boss Weapon Abilities
  • Gamepad Rebinding
  • New Game Plus Modifiers
  • Split PvE/PvP Balancing

All this seems like a ton for a studio to roll out in just under two months, especially considering the game itself launched only a few weeks ago. It's also incredibly rare to see a Soulslike receive this amount of post-launch support; it seems like it's being treated as if it's an ongoing live service game. Out of everything on the roadmap, the new Questline Event seems like it'll be the most substantial addition coming to Lords of the Fallen, alongside the three new armor quests. It'll be interesting to see if Hexworks will be able to roll all of it out before year's end, as none of these additions have been given dates yet.

All of this post launch support begs the question of whether Hexworks has DLC or a major expansion planned for Lords of the Fallen. Hexworks has already displayed its impressive ability to hit players with improvements and additions to Lords of the Fallen so soon after launch. Whether the studio will be able to maintain this volume and frequency of support for its players in 2024 is yet unknown, but it seems like Hexworks is on the ball.
