Fans of J.R.R Tolkien's epic fantasy The Lord of the Rings have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. Firstly, there's the new television series The Rings of Power, which takes a look at the time before the films and main novels take place, showing fans the mid-Second Age of Tolkien's world. For those who want to make their own adventures within Middle-earth, gaming publisher Free League may have the answer with the upcoming launch of a new companion to its game The One Ring. The One Ring is a tabletop RPG that released back in 2011. While it was hailed as the "best attempt at bringing Middle-earth to the gaming table," according to Free League, the publisher believes that there are other ways in which that experience of a Lord of the Rings RPG can be improved. Specifically, the company is now looking to launch The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying, a new game that will borrow its settings from the editions of The One Ring, but will be based on the Dungeons and Dragons 5e ruleset.RELATED: Elden Ring is Getting a Tabletop RPGThe Lord of the Rings Roleplaying is touted as a full conversion of The One Ring's setting with a Dungeons and Dragons overhaul. This means that players familiar with the latter system will be able to bring over characters and classes that would fit the world of The Lord of the Rings. Six new classes will be added to The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying, along with "six original heroic cultures from the land of Eriador." Magic items, artifacts, and more can also be expected in the new RPG. According to reports, it seems this content will be new for Dungeons and Dragons fans rather than being new to those who have played The One Ring.

For Dungeons and Dragons fans who want to experience a new setting, The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying seems a perfect match. It will have its first scenario module, Shire Adventures, release with its core compendium in early 2023, with pre-orders becoming available in autumn. Like The Lord of the Rings, Dungeons and Dragons is also seeing a big screen release soon, with the new movie Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves set for a 2023 release as well.

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying isn't the only new tabletop RPG to be announced this year. Recently, it was unveiled that Elden Ring will be getting a tabletop game as well, allowing fans to explore the Lands Between in a new way. Also, there are plenty of other Dungeons and Dragons alternatives for fans to dig into if they want a similar style of gameplay in a new and exciting setting.

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying releases in early 2023.
