The Lord of the Rings is probably the most well-known fantasy story of all time, and the movie trilogy directed by Peter Jackson has one of the largest fan bases in the world of entertainment. There certainly are a ton of interesting Lord of the Rings fans out there, and some very creative ones as well.

The YouTuber by the name of BurtBot is a fan of both The Lord of the Rings and comedy, and they have made several short videos where they take scenes from the movies with Orcs and put in a voice-over of a normal-sounding guy. The voice-over doesn’t change the dialogue, but instead just gives the Orcs the voice of a nice sounding, almost nerdy guy instead of their normal harsh and aggressive sounding voices. BurtBot also adlibs voices for background Orcs, where they say some pretty funny stuff.

In one of BurtBot’s videos entitled Uruk-hai With Normal Voice – Uglúk Talks Smack, the minute and forty-three-second video will have comedy fans and Lord of the Rings fans laughing from the beginning to end. The scene is from The Two Towers where the Orcs are carrying Merry and Pippin to take them to Saruman, all while being chased by Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. When the Orcs finally stopped to meet up with another group of Orcs who were apparently hiding behind a rock waiting, BurtBot adds in a distant Orc voice saying, “we were hiding here this whole time,” while another Orc can be heard faintly yelling, “Saruman.”

These video edits are meant to be silly and give a softer and friendlier version of the Orcs seen in the movies. And this clip definitely makes the Orcs something to joke about instead of fear. BurtBot has several videos on their YouTube page with edits from other movies where villainous characters get the “normal voice” treatment, but these Lord of the Rings edits are perhaps the most hilarious. Orcs are always saying things that are already kind of funny, like “I smell Man flesh,” and hearing the Orcs say those lines in a goofy, normal voice will have fans laughing so hard, they will want to see the whole movie done in this fashion.

When Uglúk (the Uruk-hai leader) says, “I don’t take orders from Orc maggots,” another Orc in the background can be heard saying, “owned,” while another says, “gosh what a jerk.” The way BurtBot enunciates every word is especially comedic since the Orcs' voices are normally more barbaric sounding, and they don’t always speak so clearly. There was a point in the Lord of the Rings movie where the Orc that Uglúk was talking to made a strange hissing sound, perhaps the filmmaker’s way of showing how nasty the Uruk-hai were. But in BurtBot’s video, after the Orc makes the strange sound, another Orc in the background can be heard saying, “what the frick was that, Jerry.”

These Lord of the Rings fan edits may not be everyone’s definition of comedy. However, if someone is a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, they will definitely get some enjoyment out of them.

The Lord of the Rings films are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
