The most recent Nintendo Direct was filled with announcements, both big and small, across a variety of different genres. As usual, turn-based RPGs had a prominent showing, Nintendo dropped some surprising first-party announcements, and there were a healthy handful of outliers that didn't really conform to any pattern. Looney Tunes Wacky World of Sports was, rather fittingly, one such game.

Set for a Fall 2024 release on just about every platform, Looney Tunes Wacky World of Sports will pit up to four friends against one another in a suitably silly twist on four classic sports, including basketball, tennis, golf, and soccer. While Looney Tunes Wacky World of Sports only received a brief announcement trailer, it's already clear that it'll be filled with classic Looney Tunes charm and humor, something that's reinforced by the game's healthy roster of iconic series characters.

  • Road Runner
  • Sylvester
  • Taz
  • Lola Bunny

There are a total of nine characters currently confirmed for Looney Tunes Wacky World of Sports, all of whom are household names who have had a lengthy history with the beloved cartoon franchise. Of course, Looney Tunes' two biggest mascots, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, are both front and center of the game's marketing, as is Porky Pig. Wile E. Coyote is making a bittersweet appearance on the roster following the controversial cancelation of the Coyote vs. Acme movie, and the Road Runner is there alongside him. Sylvester, Elmer Fudd, Taz, and Lola Bunny have also made the cut.

At the time of writing, it's unclear if there will be any major differences between each of Looney Tunes Wacky World of Sports' characters, such as any unique special abilities or moves. However, some store listings do hint at there being some kind of gameplay difference between some characters, stating that players can "Speed by with Roadrunner, Lola Bunny, or Silvester," or "Overpower" as Elmer, Porky, and Taz, or "Outwit" opponents as Bugs, Daffy, and Wile E. Coyote. It's unclear if this is just some fluffy marketing or a hint towards some kind of character class system.

Regardless of whether individual characters will have unique abilities, all Looney Tunes Wacky World of Sports playable characters will be able to use a variety of over-the-top power-ups, all sponsored by the in-universe company Acme. Based on Looney Tunes Wacky World of Sports' announcement trailer, it seems as though these power-ups are designed specifically to unleash chaos on the court, such as spawning obstacles that opponents need to suddenly avoid.

There are also a plethora of non-playable characters confirmed to appear in Looney Tunes Wacky World of Sports. These cameo characters can be seen in the background of Looney Tunes' debut trailer, cheering on the core nine. These cameo characters range from well-known faces like Marvin the Martian and Tweety to more obscure callbacks like Beaky Buzzard and Nasty Canasta. Though these characters aren't playable, they're a testament to just how extensive Looney Tunes' history truly is.
