During June's Nintendo Direct, Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports was confirmed to be coming to the Switch this Fall. Video games inspired by the Looney Tunes franchise have existed since the 1970s, with Roadrunner's pinball machine being one of the earliest examples. Many Looney Tunes characters, such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, Sylvester, and Tasmanian Devil have a whole library of solo spin-off games. Excluding MultiVersus as it features characters from numerous franchises, the last video game to feature the majority of the Looney Tunes cast was the 2021 title Space Jam: A New Legacy - The Game. Fans of the legendary cartoons are thrilled to see new content coming from Nintendo.

Over the years, the Looney Tunes franchise has found success with some of its best video games to date, such as the iOS and Android game Looney Tunes Dash, the PS2 classic Looney Tunes: Back in Action, and Looney Tunes Racing for the PlayStation and Game Boy Color. Even the character Speedy Gonzales, who isn't technically a member of the main cast, had several spin-off games released in his honor from 1993 to 1999. These are characters with some serious history, with TheBugs Bunny Show, one of the earliest iterations of the beloved cartoon character, debuting on ABC prime time in 1960 and running for 684 episodes across 27 seasons.

Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck are enduring staples of TV, and they have the resume to justify it. Which are the best Looney Tunes shows ever?

An official reveal trailer for Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports was released during the June 18 Nintendo Direct showcase. Playable characters include Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat, Tasmanian Devil, Wile E. Coyote, Roadrunner, and more. Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports enables four-player co-op across four arcade-style sports: tennis, soccer, basketball, and golf. Players can also venture to themed levels such as Galactic Outpost Delta, Martian Command Center, and even Porky's Barn, all while avoiding Acme anvils and employing power-ups to snag victory over their opponents. Nintendo has majorly profited from sports games in the past, a trend that began way back in 2006 with Wii Sports.

Fans Fondly Recall Shelved Wile E. Coyote Film Amid New Game Announcement

While the Nintendo community seems thrilled with the reveal, many are still holding out hope for any word on the canceled Coyote vs. Acme film. Warner Bros. has owned the rights to the characters since 1930 and although a collaboration with Nintendo for another Looney Tunes game has left fans feeling grateful, they aren't entirely satisfied. Although the film is completed, its fate still hangs in the balance as Warner Bros. demands $75-80 million to sell Coyote vs. Acme to distributors. No studio has agreed to meet this price, despite certain discussions creating false hope in the community. The finished project remains shelved.

Coyote vs. Acme follows Wile E. Coyote as he attempts to sue Acme for providing him with faulty equipment in his pursuit of the Roadrunner. However, Wile soon finds himself in a battle of wits against his former boss and the new head of Acme's law firm, played by John Cena. Warner Bros. shelved the film in November 2023 after doing the same to Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt. After unsuccessful buyers delayed the film's sale, Warner Bros. claimed a tax loss and refused to release it to the public, with only fractions of the film have seen the light of day. While Looney Tunes fans will happily take Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports as a substitute, they're still holding out hope that Warner Bros. will release Coyote vs. Acme in the near future.
