The producer behind the upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP has confirmed an important feature: the ability to choose between the English and Japanese dub voices. Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP is a remaster of the 2012 original PS3 and Xbox 360 game, originally announced as a remake but later scaled back to just being a remaster. While it was originally planned for a 2023 release, it was delayed to Summer 2024. The producer of the Lollipop Chainsaw remaster, Yoshimi Yasuda, has been keeping fans updated with various posts on his Twitter account about the game's progress. One of these updates touches on the game's voice acting.

The original Lollipop Chainsaw was released in North America a day ahead of the rest of the world, including Japan. The English dub cast featured a number of high-profile actors working on the game. These include Tara Strong as Juliet Starling, Sean Gunn as Swan, and Michael Rooker as Vikke, among other notable names. This game also had a Japanese dub, which wasn't included in the original English release. The Japanese track featured a number of famous voice actors, even having two different people playing Juliet Starling, depending on the platform version.

Suda51 is known for taking bold risks with his games, but this has also made some of them brutally difficult to complete.

According to Yoshimi Yasuda, fans of Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP will be able to hear the same cast as the original game in both languages. He also confirms that RePOP adds a feature that allows players to choose between the two voice tracks in all versions of the game. Yasuda's statement is a bit vague on whether these reprises of the old cast are through archived audio from the original game or re-recordings from the original actors.

Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP's Voice Options Should Be Interesting

Fans were very excited to hear the news, seeing that most of them had never played Lollipop Chainsaw with the Japanese voice track before. These gamers feel it would be a unique way to experience the game, considering the America-centric setting, plot, and Western comedic horror style of Lollipop Chainsaw. Users on Twitter also discussed how the voice option would work, considering how Juliet Starling is voiced by either Eri Kitamura or Yoko Hikasa, and that their voices were exclusive to the version played. They speculate that RePOP could allow players to choose from either actress during gameplay whenever they want, though it will be interesting to see how exactly the game accomodates for the version-exclusive voices.

Some of the improvements brought to Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP include faster loading times, adjusting the combat and hit detection, and enhanced resolution and FPS options. While original creators like James Gunn or Suda51 aren't involved with the remaster, raising some concern, fans won't have to wait much longer for the game's Summer 2024 launch to see if it meets expectations.
