After an impressive first season that continued expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe in cosmic and bold directions, Loki will be the first MCU series to earn a second season. Now, filming on that new season is officially underway.

Loki season 1 saw Tom Hiddleston's anti-hero traveling through time to help fix the universe's timeline and stop a greater threat after being brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA), an organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. The series first premiered on Disney Plus last summer and would go on to receive rave reviews from critics and become the most-watched MCU series.

While unfortunately taken down, cinematographer Isaac Bauman took to Instagram to confirm the first day of filming in London. The post reveals Bauman's set chair in front of a blue screen, with the caption reading, "Day 1, Just the beginning...". The original photo can be seen below.

Loki Season 2 Filming

In addition to Bauman's post, the online production resource page KFTV also confirmed that season 2 has indeed begun rolling its cameras. With production now underway and also knowing of Hiddleston's recent comments regarding the whole season 1 cast returning, the excitement for season 2 continues to climb.

While plot details for the new season have been kept under wraps, if the first season's finale is any indication, Loki definitely has some serious time issues to fix. In that finale, Loki and Sylvie confront He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror played by Jonathan Majors (who will reprise the role as the main villain in next year's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania). After Sylvie sends Loki back to the TVA headquarters, she ultimately kills He Who Remains, unleashing a multiverse with alternate timelines. This storyline also allows Loki to continue his redemptive arc, a big focus in season 1.

Following director Kate Herron's departure, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has brought Moon Knight directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead on board, a decision that seems like a fitting one considering Loki's time-bending, otherworldly story. Other than Hiddleston in the titular role, the series also stars Owen Wilson as Mobius, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-1, and Tara Strong as the voice of Miss Minutes.

Loki season 2 is currently filming, while season 1 is available to stream on Disney Plus.
