A programmer succesfully reverse-engineers The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, which could open new possibilities for the game.

Reddit user IXI-Felix-IXI created a shadowbox that shows part of Link's journey through the Lost Woods of A Link to the Past as he pulls the Master Sword from its pedestal. This act has been done by many incarnations of Link throughout the Zelda timeline ever since. Different layers of matte paper give the image depth by casting shadows in the box. Even the HUD is visible, showing that this player has almost half a wallet full of Rupees and is one heart shy from full health.

IXI-Felix-IXI added to the comment section with the specifications of making this piece of art. They explained that everything was edited through Photoshop before being printed on high-quality, thick, matte paper and laminated with a protective matte film. From there, every piece was manually cut with precision knives and had their edges redone with matching colors to avoid white from showing. While the time it took to make the shadowbox was not revealed, the artist said it took a lot of love to finish. Similar amounts of dedication have been seen in IXI-Felix-IXI's previous work, such as a shadowbox featuring their Stardew Valley farm.

Fellow fans took to Reddit to appreciate the work of art that celebrates such a pivotal point in A Link to the Past. While taking time to notice the fine detail throughout the Lost Woods, some users couldn't help but wonder if there was a meaning to the number of resources shown in the HUD. Another complimented the choice of music playing in the video's background, saying that it coincides with what plays when Link obtains the Master Sword in Tears of The Kingdom. A legendary theme pairs well with one of the best legendary weapons Tears of the Kingdom offers players. Nonetheless, artists like this continue to keep this classic game alive through a variety of mediums such as shadowboxes.
