  • Whether it's taking pictures of eccentric people or saving a hermit crab, the Substories in Infinite Wealth provide sweet and fun moments that add depth to the game.

The Yakuza series has gained fame with its Substory side quests in most of the games. Side quests can sometimes be quite boring in RPGs, as they can boil down to fetch quest design motifs. Go to a location, get a thing, and bring it back. Sometimes fighting gets involved too.

Truthfully, the Substories in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth are glorified fetch quests. However, what makes them different is that they are weird and often memorable, thanks to their wacky characters. Again, that’s why the Yakuza series is known for these quests. So, let’s dive into the tropical waters of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and find some good Substories. There will be spoilers.

These beginner tips can help players save a lot of time in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

7 Surfin’ The Streets

Getting Around In Style

Riding around in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth

Surfin’ The Streets is an early Substory in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth that players should tackle as soon as they can explore the streets of Hawaii. Ichiban will eventually run into an inventor, Oka, who is testing out his latest invention. It’s a Segway that can get players around the city in exchange for battery life, which can be upgraded.

After a test drive, the Substory will end in a battle, followed by the machine exploding. Despite this outcome, players can still use one to get around. This is nice attention to detail, and all other party members get these devices as well, as they follow behind Ichiban.

6 Litterbugged

Pancake Killer Robots

Fighting Sojimaru in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth

One of the best quests from Yakuza: Like a Dragon involved Professor Okita and his giant vacuum robot, Sojimaru. Professor Okita and a newer version of the robot return in Infinite Wealth in a quest called Litterbugged. Players first have to invest in the machine and then do a few test runs before the final confrontation.

Infinite Wealth: 6 Things The Sequel Does Better Than Yakuza: Like A Dragon

Yakuza: Like a Dragon took the series in a new direction with its turn-based combat, and now, Infinite Wealth has improved upon those many changes.

Like before, the robot will go mad and start to sweep up humans besides scraps of garbage, leading to a fight. The oddest thing about this quest is that Sojimaru recycles and cooks pancakes up top. There’s nothing wrong with multitasking, but this seems like an odd combo.

5 Snap Those Sickos

A Lewd Pokemon Snap

Playing Sicko Snap in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth

Once the segway-inspired machine gets unlocked, players may feel like taxis and trolleys are old news. However, there is a reason to ride a trolley at least once to unlock a mini-game called Sicko Snap. A man aboard the trolley, Kuroki, will give Ichiban a camera to take pictures of eccentric people around the city.

The mini-game will play out like an on-rails light-gun shooter, sort of like Pokemon Snap. Getting good photos will net players points, which can be exchanged for rare items. Snap Those Sickos is the beginning Substory, but there is much more beyond this first encounter.

4 Coming Out Of Her Shell

Nancy Gets A Friend

Olivia and Nancy in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth

Nancy is a crayfish that was part of a Substory in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Ichiban saved it from getting eaten, and she still looks healthy in the sequel. Nancy begs Ichiban to take her to Hawaii and pops out every once in a while — like for this Substory, Coming out of Her Shell.

Nancy gets smitten when she sees a hermit crab on the beach, bejeweled with all kinds of artistic stones. Some hoodlums see this hermit crab, Olivia, and try to pawn it off before Ichiban steps in to save the day. It’s a sweet Substory in Infinite Wealth, plus it leads to a good Poundmate.

3 Home To Roost

Ichiban Cosplays As Sazh

Ichiban and Joseph in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth

Home to Roost is another animal-based quest, but Nancy takes a backseat for this one. On the beach, Ichiban discovers a baby bird named Joseph that loves sitting in his hair. Between the bird’s design and Ichiban’s giant 'fro, the scene is reminiscent of Sazh from Final Fantasy 13 getting that baby Chocobo in his hair.

Players will have to dodge through sumo wrestlers on the beach as Ichiban tries to find Joseph some food and get him back to his mom. One false move and players will have to restart the charge, but thankfully, it isn’t that hard to avoid the sumo wrestlers and other obstacles. It’s not an elaborate quest, but it is a sweet one that ends on a fun note.

2 Let It Snow

Return Of The Diaper Businessmen

Let it Snow is one of the saddest Substories in the game — and one of the funniest. The quest begins with an old man, Orlando, tossing a snow cone in the air to make it snow. Upon further investigating, Ichiban finds out Orlando wants to give his wife snow one last time before she dies.

Eventually, players will meet up with Gondawara and his fellow businessmen who like to dress up like babies. This is another carryover from Yakuza: Like a Dragon. After a brutal fight, the gang figures out that baby powder can be substituted for snow.

1 Samurai, May We Walk Together

Getting Past Stereotypes

Ichiban on a film set in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth

Samurai, May We Walk Together is one of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’s most bizarre Substories, and feels borderline inappropriate. The quest begins when Ichiban runs into a producer named Nathan who wants to film a real-life Japanese samurai (aka Ichiban) enjoying the wonders of Hawaii.

Soon, players will realize that Nathan and his team think that Ichiban, and Japan overall, is one big stereotype. According to them, if Japanese people lose honor, then they cut off their fingers. If given a choice between fine cuisine and a bowl of rice, the Japanese will take the rice. It is truly baffling to have this quest in the game, but it ultimately does come to a nice conclusion.
