Quick Links
Lightyear Frontier is a combination survival and farm simulation game where you find yourself on an uninhabited planet. To thrive, you need to build yourself a little house and workshop, so you can grow plants, have a place to sleep, and upgrade your Lightyear Frontier mech and other tools. To get all these buildings and upgrades, you'll first have to find a selection of different ore, rocks, and other materials around the world, including coal. This rock appears in a couple of spots on the map, but the best place to look for it is in Pine Heights.
Where to Find Coal in Lightyear Frontier
Coal isn't something you can make; it grows out of the ground similar to metals and other rocks, similar to Red Crystals in Lightyear Frontier. There are several places this black rock will poke up out of the ground, but the best place to farm it is in the Pine Heights in the starred locations on the map above. You will find coal deposits on both sides of the entrance to Pine Heights from the Meadows. While not all the coal will respawn every day, you should be able to see some new deposits the next day; these will be completely refilled within an in-game day or two.
Lightyear Frontier: Best Crops To Farm
Farming the right crops in Lightyear Frontier ensures players will be well-equipped to craft every upgrade their mech needs.
Lightyear Frontier Coal Recipes
Coal is almost exclusively used to power up the Furnace, which requires coal to heat up other materials and melt them into useful objects. With some other objects, like Blue Crystal Dust, you can make all sorts of glasses and lenses with coal in the Furnace. The coal-powered Furnace can make:
- Blue Glass
- Clear Glass
- Fractalite Bar
- Iron Bar
- Light Bulb
- Red Glass
- Steel Bar
- Yellow Glass
How to Make a Furnace in Lightyear Frontier
To make a Furnace in Lightyear Frontier, you will need to collect twelve Wood and make twelve Clay. Clay is made by putting Stone into the Grinder to make Stone Dust, and then Stone Dust can be turned into Clay with an Assembler. Wood can be collected by knocking down trees with the Saw tool.
Later on, you can build an Advanced Furnace (12 Glo Wood, 6 Copper Wire, 1 Power Core), which will make all the recipes far faster, and it will use Dried Glo Fruit instead of Coal, which means you won't have to worry about collecting this black rock much after this better version of the Furnace is built in this day 1 Xbox Game Pass game.
