The Life Is Strange series is known for putting players in tough situations and having them make a choice that could impact the rest of the game. Life Is Strange: True Colors is no different and starts off Alex Chen's stay in Haven Springs with a handful of choices that might leave players wondering if they've picked the "correct" option. Sometimes it's hard to know which choices in Life Is Strange will have major lasting effects and which don't change much, especially at the start of the game.

The first seemingly major decision that players need to make in Life Is Strange: True Colors is whether Alex tells Gabe about Ethan's plans to explore the mines later that night. Luckily, the choice doesn't change much overall, but it can definitely impact how both Gabe and Charlotte feel about Alex for the rest of the first chapter as Ethan sneaks out to the mines either way.

Telling Gabe about Ethan's Plans

This is probably the best option for the choice. Although Gabe gets stressed out when Alex initially tells him, he appreciates her honesty and reaffirms that telling him was the right thing to do. He then calls Charlotte and tells her what happened, and she also appreciates Alex looking out for her son.

When this option is chosen, Ethan doesn't really seem to be upset with Alex later on, especially seeing as it led her to find and save him at the end of the chapter. He also doesn't seem to hold it against her in later chapters of Life Is Strange: True Colors as more pressing things happen.

Keeping Ethan's Secret from Gabe and Charlotte

The first chapter of Life Is Strange: True Colors telegraphs the blasting that's happening in the mines on the first night pretty clearly through various signs, so if Alex chooses not to tell Gabe about Ethan's plans, players might instantly get hit with some regret.

As stated above, however, Ethan sneaks off no matter what, and all that changes by telling Gabe is how he and Charlotte will feel about Alex during the first chapter. Gabe will be disappointed in her when she reads his thoughts while Alex, Gabe, and Ryan search for Ethan in the mines, but other than that, things won't change too much as the first chapter is mainly about setting up the rest of the events of True Colors' main story and doesn't have much bearing on the rest of the game.

Life Is Strange: True Colors is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
