There are some choices in Life is Strange that players have no control over, like Max's decision to jump into the past to try and save William from his car crash. Players must help her succeed in this task, but it involves searching for a very particular location to hide William's keys in.

Life is Strange players can use this step-by-step guide to help save William, by detailing the exact place Max should hide his car keys in, and even where to find an optional photo opportunity during this alternate reality.

How to Save William in Life is Strange

William finding his keys during Episode 3 of Life is Strange

The first thing Max needs to do in order to save William, is to actually fail at the task, and let him find his keys. This shows Max in Life is Strange where the keys are located, so she can rewind time and pick them up before William does.

After this, go to the coffee table and pick up the keys from under the hat before William finishes his phone call with Joyce. Once Max has the car keys, she needs to find the perfect place to hide them. This is because William actually has a beeper attached to the keys that allows him to hear where they are.

It might not seem obvious at first, but the best place to hide the keys in order to save William in Episode 3 of Life is Strange is the sink full of water in the kitchen. Chloe's father can no longer hear the locator beeper going off, so he won't take the fatal car journey in this reality. Players will have successfully saved William, and the episode will end soon—but not without offering up a surprise to two.

How to Get Optional Photo Opportunity 10 in Episode 3

The last photo collectible in Episode 3 of Life is Strange is obtained before Max tries to save William. If players are already deep within the scene, rewind as far back as possible, then head to Chloe in the kitchen.

Go right up to the counter on Chloe's left to see the "Photo" prompt for the last optional picture of the episode. Max will take a snap of Chloe and William together, and players will unlock the "Flash!" Trophy/Achievement, and also "Camera Eye" if the other nine photographs have been acquired during Episode 3.

Finding the ten photo opportunities in every episode of Life is Strange will lead to a very easy Platinum Trophy, or full Gamerscore, as they are the only optional unlockables in the game.

Life is Strange: Remastered Collection is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with a Switch version releasing later in 2022.
