Lies of P players didn’t get the most extensive look at it themselves in the game’s demo, but the weapon assemble system seems thoroughly dynamic. Unlike Bloodborne’s trick weapons that have a predetermined dual functionality baked into them, Lies of P’s weapons come in a pair of blades and handles that players can mix and match. So while the player’s Legion Arms will already compose a bunch of the game’s diversity in gameplay and combat, such as being able to reel in enemies with the Puppet String wire action, there will also be ample replayability with different weapon build permutations.

Not much of the narrative in Lies of P has been divulged yet, with devs ready for players to just dive into Krat and discover it for themselves. It will be exciting to see how each instance of truth-telling or lying affects the story and the events around the player. Playthroughs structured entirely around only telling the truth or only lying would be fun to conceive, for example, but while the narrative might present its own reasons for hopping into more playthroughs after beating the game, so does the weapon assembly system in Lies of P.

Lies of P’s Starting Weapon Selection Already Boasts Great Diversity

Lies of P has three starting weapons that come from selected paths, at least in their opening hours with the game: the Cricket (Balance), the Bastard (Dexterity), or the Sweeper (Strength). Like in games such as Dark Souls or Bloodborne, this is essentially how players select a "class," determine what their stats will be at the beginning of the game, and give them a weapon that will be most appropriate for that build. In the case of the Bastard starting build, for example, players will receive the Wintry Rapier’s Blade and Handle.

This introduces players to the premise of marrying individual blades and handles from any weapon they loot or purchase, and that’s where the game’s wealth of inventive combat options begins to rear its head in ways that will make improvisation and experimentation tremendously satisfying. So while having a starting path is fantastic for when players still need to learn the ropes of how combat works, particularly amid dodging, guarding, and popping Lies of P’s Pulse Cell charges, there is an abundance of customization that’ll open up to them later on.

Mix-and-Matching Weapons Gives Lies of P a Ton of Creativity

A handful of weapon combinations have been showcased now, such as fashioning together the Salamander Dagger Blade and the Master Chef’s Knife Handle or the Bone-Cutting Sawblade and the Carcass Crystal Axe Handle. Each blade and each handle will offer new abilities if not different attack styles that will obviously be a boon for anyone with a preferred playstyle, such as whether players like to get in close and dish out damage in rapid swipes, or if players prefer to keep their distance and only attack when they can land devastating overhead strikes. So while Bloodborne’s weapons have dual functionality, Lies of P allows players to create their own dual functionalities between different weapon parts, proving how the upcoming game innovates on the genre.

Crowd control will undoubtedly be something to stay mindful of as players explore unfamiliar areas since gameplay presentations have shown how many enemies might be lurking in any given street or alleyway, and finding which blades go with which handles to create the best synergy in any circumstance will be engrossing in Lies of P. Each playthrough can then be exciting as players may try new weapon combinations that they otherwise wouldn’t.
