A new video has surfaced that shows hilarious placeholder voice acting for the upcoming Soulslike, Lies of P. With new gameplay, demos, screenshots, and trailers revealed during Gamescom this summer, the game seems to be quite far into development, with a tentative release date in 2023. This new video, though, shows that the game's final voice acting, at least in certain parts, has not been put into the game yet, and it is hilarious to see in this Pinocchio-inspired Soulslike.Lies of P features a lot of similar mechanics to the Souls series, especially Bloodborne, but according to the developers, those similarities were unintentional. While the setting and dark atmosphere do seem to be quite similar to Bloodborne, it seems like developers Neowiz Games and Round 8 Studio are placing a higher focus on narrative and characters than some other Soulslike games. The players will be guiding Pinocchio in a gothic city called Krat in the search for Geppetto. With a higher focus on story, there are bound to be more cutscenes and character interactions than some other Soulslikes, and that is evident even in this new video, despite the hilarious placeholder voice acting.RELATED: Soulslike Lies of P Shows 12 Minutes of Gameplay at GamescomIn a video posted to Twitter by the account THE RED DRAGON, some in-game dialogue has been revealed, complete with subtitles at the bottom of the screen, but the voices are not the high-quality ones from the Gamescom cinematic trailer. The voice from a boss called the Mad Donkey, instead, is robotic and feels out of place when Pinocchio comes face-to-face with it on a bridge. The line is not what makes it funny, though, it is the delivery and the contrast between horrendous voice acting and stellar Bloodborne-like vibes and gameplay movement.

As funny as this line is, it is clear this is just a placeholder voice line, as it is quite a common practice in game development to use placeholder voiceovers until the real voice lines are recorded and added into the game. The voice line was actually first found in a 31-minute gameplay demo at Gamescom. The video of the full demo, posted by IGN on YouTube, also has a top comment from the official Lies of P YouTube account saying, "The character voiceovers are temporary placeholders and still a work-in-progress." The comment was posted on September 10 to clarify for gamers, since the game does feature animatronics as enemies, and it could have very well been a real voiceover. Beyond just the gameplay trailer and lengthy demos, Lies of P was also confirmed to be coming to Xbox Game Pass day one.

Despite fans begging for a sequel to Bloodborne for years, and even some fans creating a "Bloodborne 2" in Unreal Engine 5, Lies of P seems to be on its way to scratch that itch. While gameplay and story details have been revealed, it's clear from this voiceover the game still has a little ways to go before release.

Lies of P is currently scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
