  • Players can respec their characters and modify weapon handles in New Game Plus, allowing them to adapt their build and optimize their weapons for a new playthrough.

The New Game Plus cycle has become a staple of the Souls-like genre, and Lies of P has recently succeeded at incentivizing players to jump back into the game after the credits roll. This is best accomplished by the wide build variety that is available throughout Lies of P's skill trees and the many weapons that scale with the player's stats.

With several weapons appearing only during the endgame, Lies of P continues to drip-feed new pieces of gear that offer new gameplay styles well beyond the point that a player starts to run out of enemies to try them out on. The result is that the game continues to goad players into pushing beyond the initial playthrough and trying out these new weapons in New Game Plus with a new build.

New Weapons Lean into Lies of P's Many Build Possibilities

There are four of Lies of P's special weapons in particular that act as the most prominent reason for players to jump into a new playstyle for a New Game Plus cycle, three of which come from the final three bosses and the final one is a quest reward. These include the Uruboros's Eye, the Noblesse Oblige, the Proof of Humanity, and the Golden Lie. While there are plenty of weapons that arrive at similar times in the game as these four, these specific options offer unique movesets that can't be found anywhere else across Krat.

With how late into Lies of P's campaign all of these weapons come, some are only available to be used on one or two bosses, with Proof of Humanity and Golden Lie not usually being available until the credits roll. So, players looking to try these unique weapons out will have to head through the New Game Plus cycle in order to get the most out of them. This will then give players the chance to see how these unique new weapons work against early enemies from Lies of P's Parade Master tutorial boss to the midgame wall that is King of Puppets.

Fans of the Souls-like genre, both in and out of developer FromSoftware's Dark Souls series, will likely recognize the concept of a weapon that can only be obtained after beating the final boss. Even the first Dark Souls included the choice between a weapon or a powerful miracle to be obtained from the soul of the final boss Gwyn after beating the game. However, the number of endgame weapons in Lies of P opens the door to multiple builds that could give an incentive to make multiple New Game Plus runs, especially considering how easy it is to change playstyles on the fly.

Respeccing and Modifying Handles in Lies of P's Second Playthrough

The biggest helping hand that Lies of P offers players in New Game Plus comes from the way that players are able to respec during a standard playthrough, as well as at the start of a new cycle. This respec is accomplished in Lies of P by visiting the Saintess of Mercy Statue during a New Game run, or it can be done right at the start of New Game Plus, preparing the player to use one of their new endgame weapons. While it can cost Gold Coin Fruit to reset a build and prepare for a new weapon, that is little more than a time investment if players didn't jump into the new playthrough prepared.

Alternatively to respeccing, players can also change the scaling of weapons by altering their handles at Eugenie with cranks. Some preparation before starting New Game Plus by picking up the Moonstones needed to upgrade could also help by giving players a chance to begin with a fully leveled weapon. Therefore, there are several ways that players can jump right into New Game Plus with a weapon and build that suit each other.

Lies of P is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
