Upcoming Pinnochio-inspired Soulslike title Lies of P shares a new look at its gameplay, showing off 40 minutes of footage. Lies of P is an upcoming action RPG set for a 2023 release that allows players to take on the role of the mechanical puppet Pinnochio as he searches to become a real human. The game joins an ever-increasing lineup of titles inspired by FromSoftware's Soulsborne games, or Soulslikes. Rather than directly copy titles like Bloodborne or Darksouls, many Soulslikes offer unique settings and combat abilities to show their differences from FromSoftware's franchises.

A recently released Soulslike known as Thymesia, for example, mimics Bloodborne's darkness but has a story set around a monster-creating plague. Lies of P also seems to take clear inspiration from Bloodborne in its dark setting, but again there are twists to prevent the game from being a direct copy. There's Lies of P's narrative, which, as stated, is a darker retelling of the Pinnochio fable. Also, as shown in the 40 new minutes of gameplay footage, the upcoming title has some interesting mechanics to separate it from FromSoftware's titles as well.

The new Lies of P gameplay begins by showing the different Combat Memories players can choose from in the game. There's the Path of Crickets, which focuses on a more balanced style of play, while the Path of the Bastards goes in for more agile swordplay, and the Path of the Sweepers defeats foes through sheer strength. Each Combat Memory in Lies of P comes with its own strengths and weaknesses, as shown by the stats associated with each path.

Once the player has picked their path, the Lies of P gameplay then goes on to show viewers a bit more of the dark, Victorian-inspired setting of the game. There's a good amount of enemy variety, ranging from regular lumbering foes to larger mechanical opponents that take much more than a few hits to be brought down. Again, the Bloodborne comparisons can be made to Lies of P, as it appears the latter also relies on a quick style of combat, letting the player dash and weave their way around enemy combos.

This latest reveal of Lies of P gameplay, dubbed the Director's Cut, is split into two parts. One focuses on the broad streets of the game's world, while the other is centralized around a factory. In the second clip, Pinnochio is seen to be wielding a heavier armament that looks much like the pizza cutter-type weapon seen in Elden Ring. Also, in the second video, viewers receive a better look at some of the platforming sections in Lies of P, as Pinnochio traverses over rooftops.

Lies of P is currently scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
