  • Neowiz Games teased DLC concept art for Lies of P, hinting at a departure from the expected direction of the storyline.
  • Speculation surrounds the potential DLC setting of Neverland from Peter Pan, aligning with the similar time period of Lies of P.
  • Possibility for dark fantasy elements in Neverland, with twisted versions of mermaids, pirates, and fairies, akin to the creepy designs seen in Lies of P.

One of 2023's breakout hits came in the form of Lies of P—a dark fantasy, steampunk adaptation of The Adventures of Pinocchio. The critically acclaimed Soulslike is in-line for some DLC, and there's a great deal of speculation about how new content for Lies of P will take place.

Neowiz Games unveiled concept art teasing Lies of P DLC in late 2023. Whilst the subject of this DLC is unconfirmed, it looks to be going in a different direction than many have expected. One features Pinocchio on a boat that's crashed into another boat, whereas the other shows the puppet boy in an industrial facility—one that looks even more advanced than the factory mechanics within Venigni Works. This industrial contraption, a vat fed into by ceiling pipes, also looks to be related to water, with some type of liquid appearing to burst from its seams.

What A Lies Of P-Style Neverland Could Look Like

Many were expecting any DLC or sequel to Lies of P to surround Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz, given she was seen in a post-credits cinematic with her red slippers and mentioned by name. However, it's possible that Dorothy may be saved for a full sequel, especially considering nothing about the above concept art particularly screams Oz. Given the fact that the franchise may be branching into other fantasy stories, though, some have theorized that the DLC will take place in Neverland—home of Peter Pan. Given Lies of P's wildly inventive take on Pinocchio, pondering how the franchise would interpret Neverland is a curious thought experiment.

Peter Pan Is Already Set Around The Same Time As Lies Of P

Another thing that makes Neverland the perfect setting for this DLC is its time period. Lies of P's Belle Epoque setting was a real-world time period that began in the 1870s and ended in 1914 with the outbreak of World War One. The play that established Neverland, as well as Peter Pan as known today, was the 1904 work Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. That play is set around the time of its real publication, putting the story firmly in the same general time period as Lies of P.

Considering that Peter Pan's original story can be set around the late Victorian or early Edwardian period, it would make perfect sense for there to be some steampunk influences. However, the technological advancements in Krat are down to not just the Industrial Revolution but Lies of P's Ergo resource. With that material sequestered within Italy, the period-related differences may manifest more in Neverland itself. The Belle Epoque period was nestled within the 'New Imperialism' era, where Europe in particular found itself in a new scramble to partition up the world. Given the Lies of P's macabre twisting of Pinocchio, not to mention its critique of the hubris and capitalistic greed of the era, it would make sense for the fantastical Neverland to be targeted by colonists.

Many Peter Pan Staples Could Be Made Horrific

Lies of P's dark fantasy elements could translate well to Neverland's hodge-podge of wondrous creatures. Its mermaids could be sirens, its pirates could be interpreted with more violence, and its fairies could be twisted into more aggressive fae. With the creepy puppet robots and bubonic plague zombies seen in Lies of P, the sky is the limit for possible designs.

In addition, more flora and fauna could be invented for Neverland out of whole cloth. While much of Lies of P reimagines Pinocchio, plot points like the petrification disease are of its own invention. The kitchen-sink fantasy of Neverland might be remodeled in any way to fit the plot Neowiz and Round8 have planned.
