Highlights

  • Lies of P features side quests with easier-to-follow objectives and intelligent UI design, making them more accessible for players.
  • The Portrait of a Boy side quest is important for story elements and offers one of the best weapon rewards, the Golden Lie.
  • The side quests involving the Black Cat and Red Fox siblings are emotionally engaging and offer cosmetic rewards without the need for combat.

Side Quests or optional objectives in Soulslike games are pretty standard practice. The original Dark Souls franchise has plenty of these character side quests where players typically find the NPCs in question multiple times throughout their journey and 'continue' their side quests from there if they so choose. However, in the Souls games especially, a lot of these side quests are incredibly obtuse and a lot of players only get through them by following a guide.

Lies Of P: The Best Attack Fable Arts, Ranked

There are three types of Fable Arts in Lies of P, Utility, Defense, and Attack Fable Arts. Here are some ranked examples of the strongest Attack ones.

In Lies of P, the side quests are a lot easier to follow, thanks to some intelligent UI design on the developer's part as well as the tasks the NPC demands of Pinocchio being a bit simpler as well. Because of this, there are actually quite a few side quests to complete in Lies of P, so let's go over the ones that are most worth the time investment as well as the rewards they'll give.

7 Portrait Of A Boy

Lies Of P - Portrait Of A Boy With Growing Wooden Nose

Reward

Gepetto & The Portrait of a Boy

Black Rabbit Brotherhood Hideout & Hotel Krat

Lie at every opportunity throughout the game & check the status of Carlo's nose in the Portrait.

Golden Lie Weapon

First up is probably the most important side quest not to skip in Lies of P, as it has massive story elements integrated into it as well as one of the best weapon rewards. The Portrait of a Boy is a painting players can find in the Black Rabbit Brotherhood's hideout after beating the Eldest Brother in the Malum District. In this hideout, Pinocchio will find this portrait which is obviously a portrait made to represent Gepetto's deceased son, Carlo.

However, if players are going down the 'lying' path in their playthrough, they'll absolutely want to take this painting back to Hotel Krat and talk to Gepetto so he hangs it up. From there, they can use the 'nose' of the painting to track just how much they've lied, and when it reaches the maximum length they'll be able to interact with the painting to pull this long wooden staff/nose out of it and receive the Golden Lie special weapon.

Julian the Gentleman

Rosa Isabelle Street

Find the belongings of Julian's deceased wife & return them to him.

Sad Gesture & Julian's Wedding Ring

Next up is a Side Quest players won't encounter until they reach Rosa Isabelle Street, the 'Julian the Gentleman' side quest. Basically, before heading into the sewers of Rosa Isabelle Street to eventually reach the Estella Opera House, Pinocchio should see a man in a nice suit (and top hat) standing near the ladder leading into these sewers. Speak to this man and he'll request that Pinocchio find his wife's remains for him and bring her belongings to him. He'll also give a clue to Pinocchio that she'll be the one in the black dress. After progressing forward a decent amount, players will eventually stumble across her remains right before coming across into the Flamethrower Puppets leading up to the Opera House.

However, this is where Gemini points out that these aren't human remains, but rather the non-functioning body of a puppet. From here, players can bring her belongings back to Julian and choose to either lie or tell to truth to him about if it's possible for puppets and humans to fall in love. If they lie (which isn't 'necessarily' a lie) and say that they can fall in love, Julian teaches Pinocchio the Sad Gesture and gives them his Wedding Ring. While this may not seem like a big deal at first, getting these specific rewards is mandatory for the Broken Puppet side quest and goes a long way toward getting the Golden Lie.

5 Old Lady At The Window

Reward

Old Lady at the Window

Rosa Isabelle Street

Go to Lorenzini Arcade & retrieve the Le Bleiweis Wine for the Old Lady.

Vegnigni Commemorative Coin (which results in 1x Half Moonstone)

As for the other side quest Pinocchio can find on Rosa Isabelle Street, it's the wine-gathering side quest for the Old Lady In The Window just past the Stargazer and up (and around) the stairs to the left. To get the bottle of Le Bleiweis that this lady is asking for, players are going to need to keep progressing until they reach the Lorenzini Arcade. For reference, this is past both the Estella Opera House and the King of Puppets boss fight at the end of it.

Lies Of P: 10 Best Swords, Ranked

The definition of a sword in Lies of P is pretty loose, considering all the powerful swords of all sizes & shapes Pinocchio can find in this game.

Once players reach the Lorenzini Arcade Stargazer, they just need to keep naturally progressing through this area until they fight a giant Jester Puppet in a wine cellar. After beating this puppet, players will notice an open gate they can pass through and after going through it they'll see one of those interactable blue flowers on the wall to their left which will be the wine they're looking for. Take this back to the lady on Rosa Isabelle Street, and she'll give Pinocchio a Venigni Commemorative Coin. Again, this may seem like a lackluster reward, but if players take it to Pulcinella, Venigni's puppet butler, and have them appraise it, they'll end up getting a Half Moonstone as a reward.

4 The Broken Puppet

Lies of P - Broken Puppet

Objective

The Broken Puppet

Barren Swamp Stargazer

Show the Broken Puppets different Gestures to teach them about what it's like to be human.

1x Attribute Resistance Ampoule, 1x Radiant Ergo Fragment, 1x Resplendent Ergo Fragment, and 1x Dark Moon Moonstone of the Covenant.

Next up is a sidequest that takes place in the Barren Swamp and one that players will have to most likely return to multiple times in order to complete. Basically, at the Barren Swamp Stargazer players should see a barely function puppet NPC with a glowing red 'core'. After talking to this Puppet, they'll get a request to teach it human emotions. Essentially, this means showing Gestures of four different 'human' emotions, Clapping, Happiness, Sadness, and Anger. To get these Gestures, Pinocchio will need to earn them from numerous NPCs (usually as a result of lying) such as Gepetto, Julian the Gentleman, Antonia near the end of her life, and an NPC named Test Subject 826.

Players won't find this last NPC until Chapter 11, so they won't be able to fully complete the Broken Puppet's request until they're just about done with the story altogether. However, after showing all four of these emotions to the puppet, Pinocchio will earn yet another Quartz on top of all the other rewards they got for each individual Gesture.

3 Test Subject 826

Lies of P - Talking To Subject 826

Test Subject 826

Arche Abbey Outer Wall & Rosa Isabelle Street

Find and speak to Test Subject 826, then find him at Rosa Isabelle Street and purchase items from him.

Happy Gesture, Access to Carcass Crystal Axe, Access to LADA Disruption Cartridge, Access to The White Lady's Hunting Apparel, Access to Golden Fascination Record.

Speaking of Subject 826, there's actually more to this NPC than just getting the Happy Gesture from the initial conversation with him. After talking to him and letting him go, players can then find him later on (after a few more tricky boss fights) at Rosa Isabelle Street near the area where the Mad Clown Puppet is fought.

Here, Subject 826 functions as a Merchant, and players can obtain all sorts of great items from him. And of course, if players are in their NG+ or NG++ playthroughs, they'll also be able to purchase the golden edition of the Fascination Record from him as well.

2 Black Cat & Red Fox

Lies of P - Red Fox And Black Cat At Venigni Works

Objective

Reward

Black Cat & Red Fox

Workshop Union Culvert, Malum District, Grand Exhibition, & Arche Abbey

Build a friendship or at least a trusted understanding with the Black Cat and Red Fox siblings through four encounters (and a few spent Gold Coin Fruits).

Black Cat's Mask & Red Fox's Mask

Across all the NPCs and characters Pinocchio meets throughout Lies of P, the sibling pair of the Black Cat and Red Fox are probably two of the biggest fan favorites. These two are obviously out for themselves and totally con artists, but as Pinocchio encounters them more and more, they start to reveal more about themselves and become more vulnerable.

Lies Of P: The Best Daggers, Ranked

There are only a handful of Daggers for players to use in Lies of P. But, the ones that do exist, have some pretty incredible handles and blades.

Granted, helping these two out and choosing not to fight them near the end of the story doesn't exactly change the rewards all that much, but it's one of the few side quests or even objectives in Lies of P where players can choose not to fight and yet still get the cosmetic rewards they would've received from fighting. Basically, the side quests involving these two are worth experiencing from both an emotional and narrative standpoint.

Explorer Hugo & Lorenzini Venigni

Barren Swamp Bridge

Go to the Path of the Pilgrim Stargazer, ride the elevator to the left, and at the top go up a nearby slope to find an unnamed NPC near a burning barrel. He'll give Pinocchio the Robbers' Shack Key to the home right next to him. Go inside and (eventually) open the chest to get the reward.

1x Legion Caliber, Life Amulet

Rusty Cryptic Vessel

Lorenzini Venigni & Polendina

Collapsed Street Stargazer

Go to the Barren Swamp Bridge Stargazer and go through the (normally locked) gate next to where Explorer Hugo is standing. Here is a separate location called the Hermit's Cave. Make it to the end of this area to find a safe with the reward inside.

1x Quartz, Black Cat's Hunting Apparel

Alidoro's Cryptic Vessel

Alidoro the Treasure Hunter, Lorenzini Venigni, Eugenie

Relic of Trismegistus

Choose to 'kill' Alidoro the Treasure Hunter, take the Cryptic Vessel from him, bring it back to Venigni, read the decoded message, and then talk to Eugenie. The rewards from this Vessel change based on which of the two responses the player chooses when talking to Eugenie.

Far East Princess Record or Proposal, Flower, World Part 1 Record

Mechanical Cryptic Vessel

Lorenzini Venigni, Wandering Merchant

Arche Abbey Broken Rift Stargazer

After decoding the Cryptic Vessel, equip the Frozen Feast weapon and find the Wandering Merchant near the Abandoned Apartment Stargazer. Talk to them, show the weapon, and receive the reward.

1x Quartz, Red Fox's Hunting Apparel

Lastly, let's talk about the Cryptic Vessels that Pinocchio can find multiple of throughout the game. These items, when found, can be taken to Venigni in Hotel Krat to have them decoded. And, once decoded, if Pinocchio finds the location in the image and follows the instructions, they'll usually be rewarded with some pretty good stuff such as new Costumes or Quartz.

There are 6 Cryptic Vessels spread throughout Lies of P's story, and the rewards of each of them are almost always worth the time investment.
