If Lies of P 2 ever happens, the game should take inspiration from FromSoftware's open world epic Elden Ring, as opposed to Bloodborne like the first game. Lies of P has earned mostly positive reviews since launch, with many hailing it as one of the best Soulslike games. Lies of P takes its cues from Bloodborne and to a lesser extent Sekiro, but a potential sequel has good reason to pivot to an Elden Ring-style open world instead.

WARNING: This article has MASSIVE SPOILERS for Lies of P.

Those that have managed to beat Lies of P's toughest bosses and reached the game's after-credits scene know how exactly the game sets up a potential sequel. After reaching one of Lies of P's three endings, players are then treated to an extra scene that reveals the Gold Coin Tree merchant was secretly observing Pinocchio the entire game on behalf of his unnamed boss. It's then revealed that with Pinocchio's adventure wrapped up, the man will be turning his attention to none other than Dorothy, the protagonist of The Wizard of Oz books. Players even get to see Dorothy click her two ruby slippers together, just as she does in the book and famous 1939 film adaptation.

Obviously, this heavily suggests that Lies of P 2 will be trading Pinocchio for The Wizard of Oz, with Dorothy serving as the new main protagonist. If Lies of P 2 ever materializes, this change of setting would have major implications for the game, as it would no longer be about puppets and would presumably be set in Oz instead of Krat. Considering the potential subject matter, it seems Lies of P 2 would benefit heavily if it were to pivot from its Bloodborne inspirations to Elden Ring, as Oz is ripe for an open world setting.

Lies of P 2 Having an Open World Would Be a Game-Changer

One of the main criticisms aimed at Lies of P has been its incredible difficulty, with even Soulslike veterans finding the game to be exceptionally hard. So many fans have complained about Lies of P's difficulty that the developers have actually patched the game to make some of the bosses easier. However, if Lies of P 2 featured an open world, it wouldn't be as necessary to nerf the bosses. As Elden Ring proved, an open world Soulslike makes the Soulslike experience much more appealing to more casual gamers, as they never really have to get hard-stuck on bosses. There's always somewhere else to go, something new to see, and that can make all the difference.

Lies of P 2 potentially being set in Oz opens the door for some incredible open world opportunities. Imagine being able to explore an open world Oz, visiting iconic locations like the Yellow Brick Road, the Wicked Witch's castle, and the Emerald City. All of these locations would do great in a linear game, too, but it seems like an open world would really help the developers take full advantage of the setting.

But before fans get too excited about the possibilities of Lies of P 2, it should be stressed that the game hasn't actually been announced yet. Lies of P 2 getting greenlit will likely depend on the success of the first game, and it remains to be seen just how successful the first Lies of P will be. That being said, Lies of P has earned strong reviews from critics and its availability through Xbox Game Pass should ensure that many players are trying it out, even those that would normally skip Soulslike games.

Lies of P is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
