Batgirl is almost done with filming and Leslie Grace celebrated on social media. There's still more to come and plot details are scarce, but many are very excited to see where the film takes the DC Extended Universe.

Batgirl will follow the titular crime fighter in a project that will introduce the Batman character to the live-action DC cinematic movie storyline. The movies have begun to follow their own path instead of trying to emulate what Marvel Studios has been doing by having a shared universe.

Grace announced the news with a series of photos that presumably show some memorable personal moments during production on Batgirl. "This is a “it’s our last week of shooting #batgirl and i’m getting emotionalllll” dump🥴🥺🤎 be prepared for moreeeee," she wrote in the caption. "But in advance - Scotland, thank u endlessly for welcoming us with open arms and gifting us the perfect city to create our Gotham. it’s not the end yet but i didn’t want to miss a moment to say thank you as I’m sitting here reflecting on all we’ve gotten to experience thanks to you. i will never forget my time here."

Michael Keaton's Batman is supposed to return in Batgirl as well. It's unclear how or why he will be here, but Grace will be playing Barbara Gordon alongside J.K. Simmons' Commissioner Gordon, who is coming off the heels of Zack Snyder's Justice League. Now, it's unclear how this will all fit with the rest of the DCEU and whether Ben Affleck's Batman is the partner to this version of Batgirl. Regardless of the answer, many shouldn't be surprised to see a reference or an answer as to what will happen with Affleck's Batman following the events of the Flash film. The actor already confirmed it's his last appearance as Batman, and he unfortunately will not be donning the cowl any longer.

Grace appears to be enjoying her time as one of the caped crusaders. Hopefully Batgirl is received well and fans get to see more of this character in upcoming DCEU projects. The DC world is just getting started and will hopefully get better at understanding which characters to bring into the spotlight. There's a lot of side characters who don't get enough shine in comparison to the main heroes, so here's hoping this all changes.

In the meantime fans have more to look forward to as they await the arrival of Batgirl. Black Adam, Shazam! 2 and DC League of Super-Pets will all be releasing this year. Many fans are excited because each of these have different takes on the universe of DC Comics The Batman was a much more grounded and realistic character study, but DC League of Super Pets will be a lighthearted animated family film. Shazam! 2 will be a fun action flick right in time for the holidays, while Black Adam will be a slightly darker blockbuster action film that releases right near Halloween.

Batgirl is expected to premiere on HBO Max in late 2022.
