Even in the highly competitive early months of 2022, with games like Elden Ring becoming one of the highest-rated games of all time, hype is steady for TT Games' latest installment in the Lego Star Wars franchise. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is finally gearing up for release after almost three years since its announcement. Today, TT Games has released a developer diary detailing the game's dense open worlds.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was first revealed during Xbox's E3 2019 press conference, where it was revealed that longtime Lego video game developer TT Games would be remaking the original Star Wars trilogy and prequel trilogy, while also fully adapting the recent sequel trilogy for the very first time. TT Games' Lego franchise started life with Lego Star Wars: The Video Game in 2005, which featured 3D platformer adaptations of the three prequel movies, and was followed by Lego Star Wars 2: The Original Trilogy in 2006. These were later compiled into Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga in 2007.

After almost seventeen years of non-stop Lego games, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga marks the first time developer TT Games has gone back to the drawing board, rebooting the gameplay style of the franchise. In its latest developer diary video, various members of the game's development team discuss the incredible work put into the game's various open worlds, all of which represent different planets featured throughout the Star Wars film franchise. Planets such as Empire Strikes Back's Bespin, Return of the Jedi's Naboo, and The Last Jedi's Ahch-To are showcased, with some of the first glimpses at some side-activities players will be able to take part in.

The trailer also showcases some playable characters never before seen in the Lego Star Wars video game series, such as Babu Frik from The Rise of Skywalker, The Phantom Menace's Yaddle, and Mama the Hutt from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. TT Games also recently revealed that deluxe edition owners will receive early access to characters from spin-off media such as The Mandalorian, The Bad Batch, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga not only marks the first major reboot for the Lego video game series since its inception but also represents TT Games finishing what it started with Lego Star Wars: The Video Game, as the studio has yet to release adaptations for The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. With the success of The Skywalker Saga, perhaps the developer might look towards some of the franchise's spin-offs such as The Mandalorian and Rebels.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga releases April 5th for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
