Almost a year removed from its release date, it seems fair to say that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga may be one of the best LEGO games ever made, and it's certainly the biggest. Featuring over 20 open-world hub planets, over 300 characters, countless vehicles, and a plethora of missions covering all nine mainline Star Wars movies, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is huge, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for even more content.

In a recent report by Nintendo Life, it was revealed that a slew of upcoming TT Games projects had just been canceled mid-development. These titles included a Diablo-like Disney dungeon crawler, a non-LEGO Warner Bros. crossover shooter, and a new LEGO Batman game. But beyond these cancelations, there was also one project that's reportedly been put on hold, a fully-fledged narrative The Mandalorian DLC for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. And if there's one project that needs to survive this culling, it's The Mandalorian DLC.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Needs a Mandalorian Narrative DLC

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Glitch Floods the Game With Mandalorians

Over the last 11 months, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has received a number of updates and additional DLC packs. All of these DLCs have been character packs, adding in a handful of new playable characters based on various areas of the Star Wars franchise, including Rogue One, Solo, Clone Wars and the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ show. While it's great to have even more characters in The Skywalker Saga, and the price of each pack has been pretty fair, especially with how often they can be found on sale, they're not quite the type of DLC that fans had in mind when LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga first released.

When LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga hit store shelves, fans were adamant that the game would receive DLC packs that expanded the game in some major ways. Fans expected to see not just a character pack from The Clone Wars, but a fully-fledged narrative expansion that added missions based on each season of the show, along with new hub-worlds, collectibles, vehicles, and characters. Instead, all they got was the characters.

Though fans haven't seen it in action, this Mandalorian narrative DLC sounds a bit more like the type of expansion fans were hoping for. The term "narrative" paints the picture that this DLC would likely cover the events of The Mandalorian's first two seasons, letting fans play through lighthearted versions of each major scenario in the form of new missions. This DLC pack is exactly what LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga needs right now, and letting TT Games resume work on it could be highly beneficial for all parties. Adding a Mandalorian DLC to The Skywalker Saga right now would tie in perfectly with the third season of the show, and that brand synergy is something that's been a little lacking during Disney's era of Star Wars.

But more importantly, bringing a fully-fledged Mandalorian DLC expansion to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga would also hopefully pave the way for future expansions like it, and there's an absurd amount of potential there. Future DLC expansions could cover the events of the Clone Wars, Rebels, Rogue One, Solo, The Book of Boba Fett, the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, and just about any other spin-off that isn't part of the mainline Star Wars Skywalker saga. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga features the perfect groundwork for more content to be added gradually over time, and not capitalizing on that is a real missed opportunity.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
