LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is almost here, and to celebrate, developer Traveller’s Tales has pulled back the curtain to give players a behind the scenes look at the making of the highly anticipated game. The LEGO Star Wars series has been one of the most popular franchises to come from TT Games, who have had a hand in creating games based on the LEGO brand since the first LEGO Star Wars title in 2005, with titles like LEGO Batman, LEGO Indiana Jones, and even LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean.

Announced at E3 2019, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the sixth entry in the LEGO Star Wars series, and as the title suggests, recreates the story across all nine Star Wars films in the Skywalker Saga, from The Phantom Menace, all the way to The Rise of Skywalker. Unlike other LEGO games made by Traveler’s Tales, The Skywalker Saga's RPG mechanics and emphasis on open-world elements make for a complete overhaul of the standard LEGO game design, though it does retain some elements from past games in the franchise.

In a recent YouTube video posted by publisher Warner Bros. Games, the development team went behind the process of creating LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and the many new elements that the game features. The team describe the challenges in bringing a new take to LEGO Star Wars not previously done, and how they are excited for fans to see what they’ve come up with.

The behind the scenes video narrows in on the design philosophy of translating Star Wars locations, characters and creatures into LEGO form, specifically for ones that don’t have physical LEGO models to draw influence from. There are also brief mentions of the game’s revised combat, and how LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will feature Mumble Mode, a long requested feature that will see cutscenes depicted with characters mumbling like in past LEGO games.

While this behind the scenes video is short, it does describe how The Skywalker Saga is a definitive celebration of Star Wars. The team’s dedication to authentically bringing these stories to life in new and creative ways shines throughout and leaves plenty of material for fans to be excited about.

In spite of development of The Skywalker Saga dealing with extensive crunch time, it appears that Traveller’s Tales has done the best it can to create a game that LEGO and Star Wars fans alike can rally behind. This behind the scenes video shows the team has taken extensive care to create a game that celebrates the Star Wars legacy, and will sure to spawn new fans upon its release.
