LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga takes players through every main series film in the Star Wars franchise, retelling the events of the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy, and the sequel trilogy. All of these movies have been covered in previous LEGO Star Wars games with the exception of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, so while a lot of it is familiar, there's also some scenes that fans have never seen recreated in LEGO form before.

As far as the Star Wars movies go, reception has been mixed, to say the least. The original three films were all mostly well-received by fans and critics alike, but the prequel trilogy was a different story. While Revenge of the Sith has its fans, The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were both panned. Conversely, the first two sequel trilogy films earned critical acclaim, though The Last Jedi was not popular with a vocal segment of the Star Wars community and Rise of Skywalker earned negative reviews.

One of the criticisms levied at the sequel trilogy is that it rehashes old ideas. Indeed, Star Wars: The Force Awakens features a number of familiar plot beats that seem like they were ripped straight from A New Hope. It seems LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is well aware of this reception, as a joke in the game pokes fun at the sequel trilogy.

While exploring the Resistance Base on D'Qar, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga players are free to chat with the various Resistance members that they can find hanging around. As pointed out by Reddit user somehungariankid, one of the Resistance members says, "Did you know this place was originally identified as being a possible base by the Rebellion during the Galactic Civil War? Nothing like reusing old ideas!" This seems to be a clear nod to the criticism that The Force Awakens reused ideas from A New Hope.

Alternatively, Reddit user DogmaticCat chimed in with their own explanation for the dialogue. According to them, this LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga dialogue may really be a reference to the Star Wars young adult novel Lost Stars, which apparently features D'Qar.

Other commenters pointed out that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga makes fun of the Star Wars sequel trilogy in other ways as well, pointing out plot holes and other issues. It's all in good fun, though, and the game also has plenty of jokes about other movies in the franchise as well, so it's not like it's singling the sequel trilogy out.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
