Star Wars is a longstanding and popular franchise, one that has a long history with LEGO games too. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga set out to be a culmination of all 9 films in one LEGO game, and the initial reception of the game has been incredibly positive. No game is perfect, but it seems that LEGO and Star Wars fans alike are happy with the latest entry.

Even with full-blown voice acting, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga retains developer TT Games’ particular brand of humor. There are plenty of jokes and running gags to be had, like Luke Skywalker’s apparent obsession with blue milk. Still, each scene is made pretty faithfully aside from these tied-in jokes, but one YouTuber really shows how well done the cutscenes of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga are.

YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits recently made a video, putting the game scenes alongside the actual movie scenes. This video only uses the original trilogy—A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi—but it’s enough to really understand the game’s approach here too, as ElAnalistaDeBits describes the game as a “love letter to Star Wars fans.” Even accounting for the jokes and various changes, the game’s cutscenes pair well with the movies.

Oftentimes, the game retains the spirit of the movies as well even when it’s not exact. In LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga's cantina scene between Han Solo and Greedo, for example, Han shoots first despite the more comical nature of the scene. Such accuracy relates to gameplay as well, like when Luke passively fights Kylo Ren on Crait in The Last Jedi. There are plenty of liberties, of course, during the gameplay and the cutscenes, but their accuracy and the general spirit of them should be applauded.

Beyond LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, fans of the franchise have plenty to look forward to in the near future as well. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is releasing on April 20 as a Switch port of the Wii version of the game, and it’s a good chance to pick it up again for those who have been missing Starkiller.

Next month, of course, is also May. There will certainly be plenty of celebrations come Star Wars Day (May 4), with there being a lot said about a potential reveal of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 later that month too. Even if that doesn’t come to fruition, the Disney Plus show Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to release at the end of May. Overall, it seems it’s a good time to be a Star Wars fan.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
