Over the past couple years, Traveller's Tales has been delivering some great superhero-based LEGO games. Not only has the studio been able to tell some exciting stories following DC Comics' roster of iconic heroes, but it has also made the most of its LEGO Marvel Super Heroes franchise. These games have allowed the studio to create its own superhero adventures in the sandboxes of the biggest comic book companies around, and it is showing no signs of stopping. While it is unknown what the next LEGO game will be, there is a strong possibility that it will follow DC or Marvel Comics.

Some LEGO fans have been calling for the next LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game to follow the MCU. The MCU is one of the world's largest franchises right now and has consistently provided quality entertainment for superhero fans. Traveller's Tales has explored bits of the MCU with LEGO Marvel's Avengers, but that title did not compare to the studio's original superhero games. While it could be a lot of fun for players to explore the MCU in the LEGO style, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes has shown that the studio does not need the MCU to create fun-filled superhero titles. In fact, the studio may actually be better at crafting original Marvel tales than taking them from the movies.

LEGO Marvel Has Given Fans Great Comic Book Stories

After two different LEGO games exploring the DC universe, Traveller's Tales took a dip into the world of Marvel Comics with LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. The game brought players to an open-world New York City filled to the brim with Marvel content. The story followed various heroes from across the Marvel Universe teaming up to combat Doctor Doom and Loki who wanted to take over the world using the shards of Silver Surfer's board. It brought together The Avengers, The X-Men, and The Fantastic Four in one of the best Marvel games ever made. The game included almost every iconic superhero from Marvel's catalog, and it had a pretty exciting story as well.

In 2017, Traveller's Tales released LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 which brought the LEGO formula to the next level. This time around, the heroes of the Marvel Universe had to defeat Kang the Conqueror in the brand-new hub world of Chronopolis. The world was a combination of various different Marvel locations like Asgard, New York, Xandar, and Knowhere. The story was filled with all sorts of Marvel Easter eggs and characters from across the comics. The X-Men and Fantastic Four sat this one out, but they were replaced by the likes of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Inhumans. Many of the characters received looks that were very similar to their MCU counterparts, but the story was another original Marvel tale, and it was a lot of fun.

Traveller's Tales Should Continue Doing Its Own Thing

Before the sequel was made, Traveller's Tales released LEGO Marvel's Avengers which was criticized for being inferior to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. The main hub world was the exact same with an MCU skin attached, and the roster was significantly cut down due to the lack of some of Marvel's most iconic heroes in the MCU at the time. The story focused on the first two Avengers films and featured levels based on other various MCU projects. The biggest thing that came with the game was smaller hub worlds that players could explore based on different MCU locations, but that was not enough to garner the same success as the previous title.

The other two LEGO Marvel games were praised for their stories and innovations to the LEGO formula. To this day, the LEGO Marvel games are considered to be some of the best comic book games around. The MCU-focused LEGO game may have fell flat, but Traveller's Tales has been able to deliver quality original Marvel stories in its stead. These games have been a great time for superhero fans, and they have shown that Traveller's Tales really does not need the MCU to make a good LEGO Marvel game.

If anything, the LEGO Marvel games have shown that when Traveller's Tales is free to tell its own story then it can truly shine. The studio can make some pretty good movie adaptions, but almost nothing has compared to its original superhero tales. Time will tell if a LEGO MCU game is on the horizon, but the LEGO Marvel brand will still be able to thrive even if the MCU is not in the cards.
