With Harrison Ford about to don the fedora for a final adventure, fans of LEGO Indiana Jones series could see a third installment. The first game came out over a dozen years ago to great success, and was very well received, with a sequel being released later to combine the original trilogy with the events of Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. With a new Indiana Jones movie on the horizon, a third game and final game to complete the LEGO Indiana Jones series could be on the way too.

After the poor success of the last film and Harrison Ford entering his golden years, many thought they would never hear the iconic horns of the theme song again, but Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to feature the archeologist on what is confirmed to be his final quest. Director James Mangold has denied rumors about Indiana Jones being recast via time travel, meaning this next film will truly bring Harrison Ford's involvement with story to a close after more than 40 years of discovering important artifacts and fighting bad guys. With this bit of closure for the character, Traveller's Tales has an opportunity to give his blocky counterpart a ride into the sunset as well.

While Ford's beloved portrayal is coming to a close, new media about the character is unlikely to stop anytime soon. Much like how the Young Indiana Jones TV show came after the series' supposed end with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and brought new adventures for the archaeologist, new interpretations probably lie ahead. Whether it's a much younger version of him, or a form fans have not yet seen, there is reason to believe there will be more stories about Indiana Jones.

There is already another game project in the works that carries the name that has long held tenure at the fictional Marshall College. Bethesda announced an Indiana Jones video game in 2021, bringing the adventurer back into the AAA gaming scene. While very little is yet known about the project, its development opens up the possibility for more Indiana Jones games in the future.

The second LEGO Indiana Jones game, aptly given the subtitle The Adventure Continues, does much the same as the first game in the franchise in terms of adapting different scenes from the games and converting them into levels where players fight villains and solve puzzles. The sequel came out in 2011 and was made to adapt different scenes from the original films, as well as include Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. With all the other films accounted for, and the recent success of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, it seems the perfect opportunity for players to receive an end to the LEGO series to go along with the end of Ford's involvement in the films.

The beloved story of a college educator turned swashbuckling adventurer is will soon be forever changed. While fans may be saddened that they will never again see Harrison Ford holding Indy's whip, the character's journey does not necessarily need to be over. A third LEGO game will bring the game series up to speed with the final film, completing Ford's version of the character's story in both versions. While more than ten years have passed since the last installment, the games both remain well-regarded among players who, while eager to watch Dr. Jones' next adventure unfold, might enjoy playing through it themselves too.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny releases June 30th, 2023.
