A surprising new entry in the Horizon series has just been confirmed at Summer Game Fest in the form of LEGO Horizon Adventures, and it is going to launch on Nintendo Switch in addition to the expected PlayStation 5. Guerrilla Games introduced gamers to the futuristic world of Horizon with 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, which told the story of a young Nora outcast named Aloy as she set off to find her destiny in a world dominated by animal-like machines. This story continued in 2022’s Horizon Forbidden West, as Aloy and her allies worked to rebuild a powerful terraforming AI and prepare for a coming threat from beyond the stars.

Guerrilla Games has been expanding the world of Horizon in spin-off titles like Horizon Call of the Mountain on the PlayStation VR 2 headset, and there have been rumors of a Horizon multiplayer title in the works. Earlier this year, word started to spread of a LEGO Horizon crossover game, one that would essentially be a Minifigure and building block-filled version of Horizon Forbidden West that would combine the cartoon-like graphics of TT Games’ past LEGO titles and the post-apocalyptic world of Horizon.

Horizon: Why PlayStation is Right on The Money With Six New Projects

Sony would ensure Horizon's status as a premiere PlayStation franchise if six rumored Horizon projects are confirmed in the near future.

These rumors have now been confirmed at the 2024 Summer Game Fest, as LEGO Horizon Adventures was the very first title shown at the big livestream event. The trailer for this new LEGO Horizon game starts lightheartedly enough, with a Minifigure in a hot dog costume auditioning for a role in a new LEGO game before being attacked by a massive LEGO Thunderjaw. A Minifigure version of Aloy soon comes in to save the day before the scene switches over to a narrated montage of gameplay footage.

LEGO Horizon Adventures Release Window

  • Holiday 2024

The gameplay shown in the rest of the LEGO Horizon Adventures trailer plays out similarly to past TT Games-developed LEGO titles, with Aloy and her allies running through constructed LEGO worlds, fighting enemies, and collecting shiny LEGO studs. Players can also customize Aloy’s world by putting together buildings in a human settlement and changing their characters’ costumes. The trailer ends with Aloy and Varl battling a Thunderjaw inside a Cauldron before the LEGO Horizon Adventures title appears alongside a Holiday 2024 release window.

The biggest surprise for many might be that LEGO Horizon Adventures won’t only be available on PlayStation 5 and PC outlets like Steam and the Epic Games Store, but Nintendo Switch as well. The past Horizon games were initially released as PlayStation exclusives before being ported to PC later on, but this will mark the first game in the series to be available on Nintendo hardware. Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley confirmed that LEGO Horizon Adventures will also feature couch and online co-op like past LEGO games, so fans of both franchises will have much to look forward to this Holiday season.

Horizon

The Horizon franchise follows Aloy as she is forced to contend with a series of powerful, towering robotic creatures in a post-apocalyptic landscape. The third-person action-RPG has already seen a sequel with Horizon: Forbidden West and gives players the freedom to explore the open world as they see fit.
