  • LEGO's collaboration with Epic Games brought a unique survival mode to Fortnite, overshadowing the base battle royale mode briefly.
  • LEGO Fortnite continues to be popular thanks to regular updates, with the new game modes Raft Survival and Obby Fun recently added to provide quick bursts of gameplay.
  • Raft Survival sees players dodging projectiles on a floating raft, while Obby Fun offers players some entertaining obstacle courses to traverse.

After almost a year of rumors and leaks, Fortnite finally announced its large-scale collaboration with construction toy juggernaut LEGO in December of last year. Dropping just a week after its announcement, alongside Rocket Racing and Fortnite Festival, LEGO Fortnite came to the free-to-play battle royale as its own separate mode, completely free of charge. A surprisingly complex survival mode that echos genre greats like Minecraft while forging its own unique path forward, LEGO Fortnite became an overnight sensation, even overshadowing Fortnite's immensely popular battle royale mode during its first week.

While the hype surrounding LEGO Fortnite has died down a little since release, the mode is still proving to be incredibly popular, with around 38,000 people currently playing at the time of writing, putting it just behind Fortnite's three main battle royale modes. With LEGO Fortnite receiving plenty of updates in the last few months, it seems as though LEGO and Epic Games have no intention of abandoning the mode anytime soon, and the recent LEGO Fortnite Islands update seemingly proves that.

LEGO Fortnite's Two New Game Modes Explained

LEGO Fortnite's Raft Survival Mode Explained

On February 27, 2024, Epic Games and LEGO announced that two new, smaller-scale game modes would be heading to LEGO Fortnite. Packaged under the term "LEGO Fortnite Islands," these two game modes reuse LEGO Fortnite's assets to produce smaller-scale experiences designed for quick bursts of gameplay. The first of these modes is titled LEGO Fortnite: Raft Survival.

An addictive and challenging little mode, LEGO Fortnite: Raft Survival sees a group of players attempt to stay afloat on a crumbling raft as the iconic LEGO Pirates character, Captain Redbeard, bombards them with cannon fire from his ship, the Barracuda. Players will need to frantically search floating chests and use the resources found within to quickly build additional raft tiles, thus allowing them to survive Redbeard's bombardment for longer, and increase their overall score.

LEGO Fortnite's Obby Fun Mode Explained

The second mode available as part of LEGO Fortnite's new Islands update, Obby Fun will immediately grab the attention of those missing last year's Only Up!. Obby Fun sees players make their way through a series of challenging LEGO obstacle courses, either alone or with nine other players. Obby Fun's mechanics may be simple, but its 300 levels are sure to keep fans entertained for at least a little while, especially when the vast majority of those are modeled after classic LEGO themes.

Both LEGO Fortnite Islands modes are available for free from Tuesday, February 27, 2024. To access them, players simply need to head to Fortnite 's game mode library and click on their desired mode.

What This Could Mean for the Future of LEGO Fortnite

Right now, the future of LEGO Fortnite looks very bright. As mentioned up top, LEGO Fortnite's survival mode is still raking in impressive player counts, and the continued support from Epic Games and LEGO shows that its momentum isn't going to slow down anytime soon. Now, with the addition of LEGO Fortnite Islands, the door has been swung wide open for a slew of other potential minigames, and Epic Games has already inferred that more will be coming later down the line, stating that Raft Survival and Obby Fun are just "the first two modes," to come to Islands. Fans probably have plenty more LEGO Fortnite content to look forward to in the near future.
