  • While LEGO Fortnite mode offers an impressive gameplay experience with its brick-building mechanics and stunning visuals, it could greatly benefit from incorporating crossover enemies from other franchises present in Fortnite.
  • There are already numerous potential crossover villains from popular franchises like Star Wars and Marvel that could be integrated into LEGO Fortnite as enemy NPCs, providing more engaging and diverse gameplay for players to enjoy.

A phenomenal Holiday gift from Epic Games, Fortnite's December 2023 update brought with it three new game modes, all of which are essentially entirely new games that simply use Fortnite's characters and assets. And while Fortnite's Rocket Racing mode and the Rock Band-inspired Fortnite Festival mode are both excellent additions, they haven't quite taken off in the same way that LEGO Fortnite has.

A survival mode in a similar vein to Minecraft or LEGO's own LEGO Worlds, LEGO Fortnite sees players control a minifigure version of their chosen skin as they attempt to craft their own brick-built village, harvest resources, and defeat enemies. Incredibly accessible, surprisingly deep, and absolutely gorgeous to look at, LEGO Fortnite is easily one of the best collaborations the live-service game has ever had, though it could be made even better with a range of crossover enemies.

LEGO Games Need to Capitalize On the Fortnite Hype

Fortnite's new LEGO mode has been an unparalleled success for both brands, and LEGO should try to capitalize on this sudden wave of hype.

LEGO Fortnite Should Be Using Crossover Enemies

Right now, LEGO Fortnite is home to some fairly generic enemies. Split into two categories, Skeletons and Scoundrels, LEGO Fortnite's enemies aren't exactly the most riveting adversaries to fight against, and they don't really take full advantage of Fortnite's unique premise. For years, Fortnite has been a hub for all things pop-culture, from movies to TV to music artists to even fellow video game properties. With all of that content already there from the get-go, it would have made a lot of sense for LEGO Fortnite to integrate those properties into its game mode, but it only goes halfway.

Many of LEGO Fortnite 's Scoundrels are actually references to classic LEGO sets such as the Pirate Slicer and the Falcon Knights.

Right now, players can use a vast array of crossover skins in Fortnite's LEGO mode, with most Marvel and Star Wars skins having dedicated minifigure appearances for the mode, all based on their real-world LEGO set counterparts. While not every crossover skin has a tailor-made LEGO Fortnite version, a surprising number do, adding a whole extra layer of value to these cosmetics. However, that's as far as LEGO Fortnite's IP crossovers go.

Fortnite Has No Shortage of Crossover Villains to Choose From

It would be great to see some more crossover integration within LEGO Fortnite's mode, specifically in regards to the mode's enemy types, and there are a ton of villains already ready and waiting. As mentioned above, LEGO Fortnite has already made a slew of minifigure appearances for its collab skins, some of which could easily be turned into enemies for the mode. There are Star Wars characters like Darth Maul and Darth Vader, Marvel characters like Green Goblin and Taskmaster, and those are just the ones that currently have specific LEGO outfits in Fortnite.

While it would definitely take some effort, and could potentially affect some sort of pre-made licensing agreement with these franchises, it would be great to see these villains get added to LEGO Fortnite as enemy NPCs, along with a whole slew of newly LEGO-ified crossover villains. Though LEGO Fortnite's Skeletons and Scoundrels are fine enemy types, the mode could be made so much more engaging if these were replaced by Star Wars Battle Droids or Stormtroopers, and new bosses were added to the game using iconic Marvel and DC villains like Thanos, Venom, Joker, and Lex Luthor. Other standout crossovers, like Predator, Terminator, and Alien, could provide additional enemies for players to encounter.
