Fortnite has consistently been one of the most popular multiplayer games in the world since its release in 2017, and there are a few big reasons behind that. While its Battle Pass is an addictive loop that rewards consistent long-term play, and its actual moment-to-moment gameplay feels satisfying and fun, it's Fortnite's constant updates that have kept it in the mainstream for so long, and its latest season brought with it the biggest changes that the live-service title has ever experienced.

Back in December, Fortnite added three new game modes. Considered full video games in their own right by Fortnite's developers, these three modes are surprisingly complex, offering hours of replayable content for no extra cost. And while Rocket Racing and Fortnite Festival definitely have their fair share of fans, it's LEGO Fortnite that's really hit the big time, joining two juggernaut brands together for one impressive video game experience. Right now, more eyes than ever are on LEGO, and it's about time the toy company properly capitalized on that.

LEGO Should Be Releasing More Games Right Now

Thanks to Fortnite's LEGO mode, hype for the construction toy is at an all-time high, but that hype has nowhere else to go right now. More often than not, Fortnite times its crossover events expertly, ensuring that its own collab skins are released alongside whatever project the IP has in the works. For instance, Marvel skins are usually added to Fortnite when a new movie releases, and Fortnite's gaming skins like Aloy and Alan Wake have released alongside a new entry in their respective franchises.

But LEGO doesn't have another project ready to drop. While it's a bit of a different circumstance, as Fortnite's LEGO mode is an entirely new gaming experience in and of itself, it's served a similar purpose as a crossover skin, getting many fans more excited about the general LEGO brand. It would have been great to see LEGO really capitalize on this new wave of general excitement, possibly with a new video game reveal of its own.

Right now, LEGO has two video game projects practically guaranteed to be in the works. Though it hasn't officially been confirmed, leaks and rumors surrounding a LEGO soccer game named LEGO 2K Goooal! and a full-scale remake of the LEGO Harry Potter games have circulated the internet for a while now. Though the latter is probably still a ways off, LEGO 2K Goooal! is one of the industry's worst-kept secrets, and according to leaked documents, should have been released a year ago. It would make a lot of sense for LEGO to have used its newfound Fortnite success to get more eyes on LEGO 2K Goooal!, though that doesn't seem likely at this point.

LEGO Should Release Fortnite Sets

LEGO also seems to be missing a trick by not producing any real-life sets based on the LEGO Fortnite crossover mode. LEGO has been experimenting with video game sets for over a decade now, with Star Wars: The Old Republic, Overwatch, Super Mario, Sonic, Minecraft, and now Animal Crossing sets all doing fairly well and receiving several waves, and it seems likely that a Fortnite wave of LEGO sets would do just as well. And with Fortnite's LEGO mode already making minifig versions of hundreds of skins, it seems like one of the hardest parts has already been done.
