Highlights

  • LEGO Fortnite should consider adding a character creator feature similar to classic LEGO games, allowing players to customize their LEGO avatar.
  • The character creator could have options for customizing the appearance of the player's LEGO avatar, such as different colors for the outfit.
  • A character creator in LEGO Fortnite could also include crossover skins, allowing players to create unique crossover characters using different torso, head, and leg components from various franchises.

There have been some truly beloved LEGO games over the years, and while none of them have really broken new ground as far as the gaming industry at large goes, they have had their fair share of innovative inclusions over the years. From introducing large-scale open worlds to the family-friendly action/adventure genre to including hundreds of playable characters at a time, LEGO games have continued to evolve gradually over the years. This all culminated in the recently released LEGO Fortnite.

Launching right at the end of 2023, LEGO Fortnite has continued to be a pretty monumental hit for the live-service game. A survival game heavily inspired by Minecraft and LEGO Worlds, LEGO Fortnite sees players build their own towns, fight off monsters, and upgrade their gear. It's a simple loop, but an addictive one, and LEGO Fortnite's many dedicated skins help to make the mode feel even more impressive. But LEGO Fortnite still has some room for improvement, and an old feature from classic LEGO games could go a long way in LEGO Fortnite.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League surprisingly makes a strong case for the next LEGO Batman game to come out in the near future.

LEGO Fortnite Could Work Wonders With a Character Creator

First introduced all the way back in 2007 with the release of LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, many classic LEGO titles included a character creator. This LEGO character creator allowed players to swap out heads, torsos, legs, arms, hair, and weapons to create a wholly unique custom character.

The more characters players had unlocked, the more individual pieces were available for them to use in the character creator. This feature has been a staple of the LEGO video game franchise, appearing in just about every licensed LEGO game since LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, including LEGO Batman, LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Marvel Superheroes, and LEGO Lord of the Rings.

It would be great to see this classic character creator feature come to LEGO Fortnite in the near future. Even if players don't get to customize their character's weapon or ability, it would be great to be able to just customize the player's LEGO avatar from a visual standpoint. If Epic Games wanted to make this feature extra consumer-friendly, then it could allow default skin users to customize their base appearance in a few minor ways such as a different color palette for their outfit.

But then those who own multiple Fortnite skins would be able to swap out individual components like the head, torso, and legs, mix-and-matching their owned skins to create a completely new LEGO character. There are already quite a few tailor-made minifigure skins for LEGO Fortnite, so it would be a neat reward for die-hard fans who own them all to be able to mix and match each skin at their leisure, adding a whole new layer of value to each purchased skin.

Adding Crossover Skins Would Make a LEGO Fortnite Character Creator Even Better

LEGO Fortnite is already home to a surprising number of crossover skins, with some Star Wars, Marvel, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters all having tailor-made minifigure versions exclusive to the mode. A character creator with access to even just these crossover characters would be amazing to see in LEGO Fortnite, letting players create their very own crossover character, with the torso of a Clone Trooper, the head of a Ninja Turtle, and the legs of Spider-Man.
