LEGO Group and Epic Games have officially revealed LEGO Fortnite, a new survival crafting game that's set to debut within Fortnite on December 7. The joint announcement arrived after several LEGO teasers hinting at the upcoming Fortnite crossover.

Epic and LEGO originally partnered in April 2022, when they revealed a large-scale, long-term gaming collaboration. On that occasion, the duo pledged to exchange their extensive expertise with the goal of building a kid-friendly "metaverse."

LEGO Fortnite Is Epic and LEGO's First Metaverse Experience

The first result of those efforts will arrive in the form of LEGO Fortnite, which has just been treated to an official reveal trailer. Although the 22-second video doesn't show much beyond the game's release date, it does offer a brief glimpse at the LEGO versions of the Supply Llama and Brite Bomber. Elaborating on this reveal, the Danish toymaker said that LEGO Fortnite will attempt to combine the best of both franchises, allowing players to explore vast open worlds while encouraging them to experiment with building a wide variety of structures and contraptions using the iconic bricks.

LEGO Fortnite Release Date

  • December 7, 2023

While the upcoming crossover experience will debut within Fortnite, the survival crafting game aims to be more accessible than Epic's battle royale hit. Specifically, LEGO Fortnite has received the ESRB's E10+ classification, while the base game is rated T for teens. Due to its focus on survival elements and crafting, LEGO Fortnite sounds like it has a chance of delivering an expansive PvE experience that Fortnite: Save the World promised back in 2017. However, the game's original survival mode has seen few updates ever since, as Epic instead opted to focus on its massively successful battle royale component.

Although today's announcement did not offer any more details on the upcoming crossover, a recent leak that correctly predicted the LEGO Fortnite release date also included some additional information about the game. Specifically, LEGO Fortnite will reportedly feature mining mechanics and a building tool with nine slots for schematics, as well as HP and energy systems. Sleeping in a bed, another feature specific to the game, will restore both health and stamina, while ore mining will be the primary way of procuring building materials, as per the same source.

The single piece of promotional artwork that LEGO Group attached to today's announcement shows three distinct biomes: a rocky desert, lush forest, and snowy mountains. The image also features several Fortnite mascots: Peely, Cuddle Team Leader, and Brite Bomber. Finally, the Nightmare Shark Ship from the LEGO DREAMZzz set and Minifigure Lizard Man are both present in the artwork, underlining LEGOFortnite's potential to combine a wide variety of themes and sets into an ultimate sandbox experience.
