Developer TT Games was working on several different projects that have since been canceled, including a LEGO Disney game. The ever-popular LEGO franchise already had several memorable video games to its name before Traveller’s Tales released the original LEGO Star Wars in 2005, but the success of this title spawned a series of family-friendly collect-a-thons that brought the brand to new heights in the gaming world.
This would culminate in last year’s LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which earned praise for evolving the tried-and-true LEGO formula and sold over 3.2 million copies within the first two weeks of its release alone. TT Games has released LEGO titles based on other Disney-owned properties as well, including two LEGO Indiana Jones games and several LEGO Marvel Super Heroes titles. Naturally, some fans have wondered what a TT Games-developed LEGO game inspired by the House of Mouse’s other major franchises would be like - and it turns out they were very close to getting one.
According to a recent report by Nintendo Life, TT Games was working on a LEGO game based on various Disney properties like Jungle Book, Nightmare Before Christmas, Pirates of the Caribbean, Maleficent, Muppets, Frozen, Toy Story, and Winnie the Pooh. Internally referred to as “Project Marley,” this massive crossover would have had players exploring a large overworld and Diablo-like dungeons to defeat a villainous purple force corrupting the environment. Unfortunately, the project was ultimately scrapped after four years of development.
“Project Marley” isn’t the only TT Games title to never see the light of day, as the studio was reportedly working on a LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy game featuring characters like Nova and Adam Warlock as well. There was also “Project Rainbow Road,” a Funko Pop-branded shooter themed after Warner-Bros. properties like Rick and Morty and Stranger Things. The project fell through when developer 10:10 gained the Funko license last July. Lastly, a mobile port of 2017’s LEGO Worlds was initially in development at Playdemic, but eventually transferred to TT Games (and then shelved) when the studio was acquired by EA in 2021.
Sources claim that the reason for these many cancelations is that TT Games is pooling resources for a LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga-like adaptation of the LEGO Harry Potter series, and that the previously announced Mandalorian DLC and a new LEGO Batman sequel might be delayed as well. TT Games has already stirred controversy due to allegations of employee crunch while developing LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and these new revelations could be a further sign of trouble at the LEGO developer.
