After 10+ years of Marvel Cinematic Universe worldbuilding, the first saga came to a close with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It was a one-two punch that felt fitting of all that work that came before. Just recently, LEGO released its own MCU Saga 1 send-off with the Avengers Tower, an incredibly detailed set that features intricate build quality and tons of Easter Eggs for Marvel fans.

Building the LEGO Avengers Tower is a daunting task. In pictures, it might not seem that large – LEGO is great at scaling down – but the finished product is nothing short of stunning. What might seem like just a big LEGO building at first quickly reveals that it is packed with detail in every inch.

Opening up the LEGO Avengers Tower box reveals 39 bags of LEGO pieces and 3 instruction booklets. That alone should tell fans that they are in for an excursion when it comes to building this behemoth. LEGO is smart in that each of the bags isn’t filled to the brim with pieces; most people should be able to get through one in less than 20 minutes. It’s easy to take breaks from the building process, but, at the same time, it’s hard to stop once that momentum builds.

At a glance, the LEGO Avengers Tower might seem somewhat repetitive based on its external facade. And make no mistake, there are a LOT of windows on the set, of several different varieties. But that’s also a testament to the quality of the build, in that it feels like putting together a LEGO version of a building rather than cutting any corners. For example, you will spend at least a few bags filling in the tiles on floors to make it seem more movie-accurate than just one singular piece.

LEGO Avengers Tower Key Stats

  • Size: 36x14x10" (HxWxD)
  • Minifigures: 31
  • Price: $499
  • Pieces: 5,201

It’s a treat to watch the foundation of the LEGO Avengers Tower start to come together, but the real surprise is how much character the set has. Pulling off the sloped glass piece that runs along the underside of the Tower reveals four floors featuring classic sets or scenes from the MCU films. You can see the Cap vs. Cap showdown from Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark's workshop, the glass holding cell where Loki was kept prisoner, and the lobby complete with a vending machine. LEGO also uses unique pieces to help tell a story, like the clear curved LEGOs that convey the idea that the two Captain Americas toppled over the side of a glass bridge.

As you build up the LEGO Avengers Tower, many of the bags will contain at least one mini-figure. There are most of the heroes from the core MCU cast, as well as some villains and side characters that fans will recognize. Obviously, the Avengers Tower/Stark Tower is a key setpiece from 2012's Marvel's Avengers, but the set tries to incorporate some familiar faces from the entire Saga, like Scarlet Witch, Wong, and even Kevin Feige.

With 31 minifigures in all, the LEGO Avengers Tower set might seem like it is rolling out a bunch of characters and asking you to find storage for them. You could display all of them on a shelf, but the set also has unique placements and rigging for almost all of them, like Tony Stark jumping from the Tower and being chased by his Iron Man armor to Hulk hanging off a broken window with a Chitauri goon in his grip. For as much as the inside tells a story, the facade can be brimming with life if you so choose. There’s nothing wrong with the clean look either; the set is impressive with or without minifigs adorning every nook and cranny.

On top of that, the set also includes a Leviathan and Quinjet as accessories to accompany the Tower. The Leviathan has its own translucent stand so it can sit nearby, or it can come off for some added play. Meanwhile, the Quinjet has its own hangar at the top of the Tower or it, too, can be an interactive element.

lego avengers tower marvel set review

After spending a week building the LEGO Avengers Tower set in fits and spurts, I felt like Thanos at the end of Infinity War (without all the dusting, of course). This is a massive set that becomes more and more impressive with each bag you complete. It’s structurally well-constructed and feels very stable, but it also doesn’t make any sacrifices when it comes to representing such a unique piece of movie architecture. At times, it can be a little tedious when it comes to filling in 100+ windows, but LEGO has been smart about breaking up the monotony from bag to bag.

Of course, the one thing standing between fans and this set is the $499 price tag, but if you have the money, the space, and the love of the MCU it is well worth the investment. This is a showpiece on a level that only LEGO can deliver, and it’s sure to put a smile on anyone’s face.
