  • It would be beneficial for 2K to announce LEGO 2K Goooal! sooner rather than later, as the leaks have already generated widespread attention and building hype in advance could help showcase the game's features.

LEGO 2K Goooal! is an upcoming title that technically remains in the realm of rumor, with no official acknowledgment from 2K as to its existence. However, with the smorgasbord of leaks that have unveiled the title to the public, it's a wonder as to why the game's still under wraps.

With Lego's videogame output moving beyond Traveller's Tales, the recent collaboration with 2K marks a major shift. 2023's LEGO 2K Drive was the result—an open-world racing game that received mixed reviews. Its format split away from the LEGO games of Traveller's Tales, a take on a genre of gaming rather than an adaptation of a media franchise. This more unique approach, as opposed to Traveller's Tales' LEGO games that all echoed the same fundamental design, seems to have been continued in the massively popular LEGO Fortnite. A whole world of new opportunities has opened up for future LEGO titles, and 2K Goooal!'s place within that world already seems clear.

LEGO 2K Goooal! Just Can't Stay Hidden

There's a great deal of possibilities for LEGO games going forward now that the TT tradition is broken, from bringing back classic non-licensed LEGO games to more LEGO iterations on staple genres. The latter approach seems to be that of the upcoming LEGO 2K Goooal!, a LEGO take on football/soccer games. Despite how easily LEGO charm could translate into a sports game, 2K has been tight-lipped about the title—even in the face of a leak barrage.

What's Been Leaked About LEGO 2K Goooal!?

LEGO 2K Goooal! was first reported in February 2022, where the game that would become LEGO 2K Drive was also listed. This report alleged that 2K had secured the rights to multiple LEGO sports games. In addition, it stated that LEGO 2K Goooal! would be a joint effort between 2K and Sumo Digital. This report was incorrect about LEGO 2K Goooal! arriving in 2022, but was correct about the existence of LEGO 2K Drive—not to mention the corroboration that's come since.

The rumored game has popped up here and there since. LEGO 2K Goooal! has been leaked multiple times, from Amazon and PlayStation store listings to appearances on ratings board for South Korea, Taiwan, and South Africa. The Amazon listing had no image but a bizarre pricepoint of £37.50, despite the £49.99 price of LEGO 2K Drive. PlayStation's November 2023 listing, on the other hand, presented a promotional image for the game. X user @MauroNL3 tweeted out the image, which depicts a pirate, knight, and catgirl taking part in the sport alongside uniformed footballers.

2K Could Do With Being More Forward About LEGO 2K Goooal!

It's actually not too surprising that there's been no word from 2K about their next LEGO title. LEGO 2K Drive was officially revealed March 2023, only 2 months before its release in May. However, it would still be a good idea for 2K to get ahead with announcing its LEGO soccer title. Firstly, it's clear that nobody will be surprised by the reveal of LEGO 2K Goooal!; the leaks are already beyond widespread. Additionally, building up hype several months in advance would help get more eyes on the project and could give 2K the necessary time to dive into all of its features.

Moreover, LEGO 2K Goooal! could really revitalize the genre. Gamers have long complained about the yearly release schedule of sports games, with gameplay cloned in every release and the ceaseless bloating of excessive microtransactions. Much of 2K's own catalogue, such as its wrestling titles, has received this criticism. On the other hand, LEGO games have a timeless charm. The creativity and humor found in the toy and the wide variety of games under its belt have touched innumerable childhoods, and its chaotic fun would do well to set a new sports game apart from the rest.
