Although many Champions are strong, as the meta changes, some become irrelevant in terms of success. Gwen is flexible enough to withstand the many incoming changes to Legend of Runeterra's meta, since she can find success with many different Champions. Players looking to play with Runeterra's favorite doll need to look no further because this guide will inform players on what they'll need to know to successfully use Gwen.

Gwen Elise

Legends of Runeterra Gwen
  • Boisterous Host x3
  • Precios Pet x3
  • Stygian Onlooker x3
  • Arachnoid Horror x3
  • Elise x3
  • House Spider x3
  • Imperial Demolitionist x2
  • Phantom Butler x3
  • Doombeast x3
  • Frenzied Skitterer x3
  • Noxian Fervor x3
  • Stalking Shadows x2
  • Gwen x3
  • Decimate x3

Gwen Elise is a Deck that relies heavily on an Early Game board presence that can quickly take down the enemies' HP before they have time to come up with a counterattack. This deck is filled with many 1-2 drop cards such as Precious Pet, Arachnoid Horror and even Boisterous Host who can all be played as early as turn 1. Boisterous Host makes our Gwen even stronger when he dies, due to his Hallowed Keyword. The Fearsome Keyword helps a lot here since most cards that are low mana costs have less than 3 Power, making them unable to block.

Having this cushion in the Early Game gives players a chance to comfortably either end the game quickly and win, or if the enemy gets a way to stall out, this is when Gwen comes into play. Gwen will help us recover any HP we might have loss during the Mid-Game and combined with our Burn cards like Decimate or Noxian Fervor, set us up with an easy way to close the game out. Elise is also helpful here, especially once she gets her level up, being able to use their Challenge Keyword to help with troublesome enemies with disposable Spiders. This helps Gwen continuously siphon the enemy's HP, and pushes her closer to her level up, which is nearly a win condition in itself, if left unchecked.

Gwen Vi Caitlyn

Legends of Runeterra Gwen
  • Thermogenic Beam x1
  • Boisterous Host x3
  • Ferros Financier x3
  • Mystic Shot x3
  • Sting Officer x3
  • Vile Feast x3
  • Aftershock x2
  • Caitlyn x3
  • Conductor Of The Mists x3
  • Piltover Peacemaker x3
  • Aloof Travelers x3
  • Despair x1
  • Gwen x2
  • Vi x1
  • Withering Wail x1
  • Vengeance x3
  • Commander Ledros x2

This Deck with Gwen, Caitlyn and Vi has a pretty different approach towards winning games compared to Gwen Elise. This deck revolves more around indirectly attacking the enemy's HP pool and cards with trap effects, spell cards and monster effects. Caitlyn's traps can help us keep the enemy's board clear or low on monster count when triggered. Vi comes in clutch when the enemy has powerful cards that our traps aren't enough to take down, since she can easily hit 10 Power if players drew her early on.

Gwen is also here to keep applying continuous pressure with her siphoning ability, and Early Game presence. With the combination of Boisterous Host and Conductor Of The Mists, Gwen's power, along with whatever card player's choose to make their first Attacking card can reach incredibly high amounts of Power. Hallowed effect used on Sting Officer is such a deadly combo since he is Elusive and most decks don't run Elusive units, making him unblockable for a lot of enemies. A Sting Officer with 5+ Power can end the game in 3-4 turns with ease, and with him only costing 2 mana, along with planting Caitlyn's shock traps with all successful attacks makes him very annoying to deal with for the enemy.

Players must always remember to not put Gwen as the first attacking card because she gains the same amount of attack that other cards do from the Hallowed effect. Many players aren't used to this unique effect and will put Gwen as their frist attacking card, letting a lot of precious opportunities be missed to win games. Cards that may be a bit stronger than Gwen can easiyl be taken down to size by Sting Officer / Caitlyn traps or simply burn / destruction cards like Vengeance, Mystic Shot or even Withering Wail.

Commander Ledros gives us an alternate win condition if the game drags on to the Late Game, since he is such an expensive card, sitting at a whopping 9 Mana. His effect makes him practically immortal, aside from Obliteration effects, and there aren't many decks that have cards with the Oblierate effect. His other effect cuts the enemy's HP in half every time he is summoned, which is perfect since this deck can directly attack the enemy's HP pool with multiple cards. This deck is extremely versatile in its paths to victory and can sometimes even have players wondering if Gwen is even needed to win games in this Deck.
