A total of 15 legendary weapons add another dimension to the game with great designs, a piece of history to every one of them, quests to complete to get a lot of them, and, of course, very interesting qualities. It's a great way to honor the legacy of The Legend of Zelda, with long-time fans of the series loving these weapons and how much history they have in a series full of some of the greatest action-adventure games of all time.

31 Switch Games To Play If You Loved Breath Of The Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is among the Nintendo Switch's most celebrated games, so here are a few games to try after saving Hyrule.

Ranking these legendary weapons might not be an easy task, as well as being biased in many ways. However, it could be a starting point for players wondering which ones are worth getting, or which ones to use. The mere fact of their existence speaks volumes of the depth and detail of Tears of the Kingdom, but just like all legends aren't as enticing, all legendary weapons aren't as good. As enticing as it may be, players shouldn't hoard these weapons ceaselessly. At the end of the day, the weapon durability mechanic is meant to encourage experimentation, and a tough boss or foe should always be attacked with the best weapons in Link's arsenal.

Updated on March 16, 2024, by Ritwik Mitra: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the greatest video games ever made. The number of ways it expands on the core concept of the series is incredible and goes a long way in showing just how much of a strong base Breath of the Wild set with its fantastical open-world design. Mechanics like Fuse and Ultrahand are something players love to toy around with, and that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the wealth of positives players can enjoy in this video game. Tears of the Kingdom features many legendary weapons that players can acquire via amiibos, exploration, or quests, with all of them being pretty viable in their own right.

15 Daybreaker

Colorful But Somewhat Useless

daybreaker
  • Base Protection: 48
  • Reward for completing the side quest "The Missing Owner"

The bottom was clearly reserved for the shields. Parry fans might disagree, but the truth is getting a great shield by using a combination with a strong material is something accessible since Link goes back down to Hyrule. That only adds to the fact that players can't even use them with a heavy weapon or a spear, so, of course, when it comes to legendary weapons, shields are far from being a priority.

Furthermore, the Daybreaker has a base protection of 48, which is very low considering there are plenty of better shields in the game, even without the combination. It does have one of the best designs, but that's about it. The shield that once belonged to Urbosa can be found by completing the side quest "The Missing Owner," which, luckily, is a cool side quest and also brings one of the best swords in the game despite being especially long.

14 Sea-Breeze Shield

Great, But Still Worse Than Non-Legendary Shields

sea breeze shield
  • Base Protection: 65
  • It can be found in the Depths or by scanning the Toon Link Amiibo

The second to last is another shield, but this one has the strength a legendary weapon should have. The Sea-Breeze Shield comes with 65 base protection, which is excellent, although lower than the Royal Guard's Shield, a non-legendary item. It's still a very cool shield to have, as it is the third-best in Tears of the Kingdom. Again, shields aren't game changers, but for players who like to use them, the Sea-Breeze Shield is one of the best options.

This shield from The Wind Waker is also one of the easiest legendary weapons to get. It can be obtained by scanning the Toon Link Amiibo or in a chest at Tabahl Grove in the Depths, near the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. Regardless of how players obtain it, the familiar pattern of the shield coupled with its high defense stat makes it a must-have in any player's arsenal.

13 Hylian Shield

The Best Shield There Is

hylian shield
  • Base Protection: 90
  • Reward for defeating Phantom Ganon

The Hylian Shield falls into the same issues as the other shields, but it's better. It is hard to find many situations when a 90 base protection won't do the trick. Also, having a gorgeous design helps the narrative for the Hylian Shield being the best shield in the game, by far. It's the shield that genuinely makes Link look like the legendary hero everyone has grown to love, which makes it all the more engaging when he wears this shield in battle against the overbearing force of Ganon.

Players looking for the best materials to fuse with their shields in Tears of the Kingdom should peruse these suggestions.

In addition, it is very relevant to the game's lore, matching up with the Master Sword to create the deadliest combo, perfectly balanced defense and offense, allowing players to parry, dodge, and attack with a lot of quickness. The only real downside is that it's just a shield. It can be found in the docks of the Hyrule Castle after defeating Phantom Ganon and lighting up the brazier, which will pop up a chest.

12 White Sword Of the Sky

Pretty And Useful For Early Stages

white sword of the sky
  • Base Damage: 24
  • Reward for completing the side quest "The Mother Goddess Statue" or scanning the Link Skyward Sword Amiibo
  • Passive Ability: Improvised Sneakstrike

This is another weapon that works as an easter egg. The White Sword of the Sky is a truly beautiful weapon, but the 24-base damage just won't get it done. Its passive ability is the Improvised Sneakstrike, which, honestly, doesn't really do anything. The durability isn't anything special, either. Good-looking, yes, but not very useful on its own.

The long quest needed to get it might not be worth it. The way to get this sword is by completing "The Mother Goddess Statue" side quest, which seems a bit excessive given the poor quality of the weapon. It can also be obtained with the Link Skyward Sword Amiibo, a bit fairer price for such a weak weapon.

11 Sword Of The Hero

As Iconic As It Gets

Sword of the hero
  • Base Damage: 17
  • It can be found in the Depths or by scanning the 8bit Link Amiibo
  • Weapon Modifier: Water Warrior

This sword certainly holds a great deal of sentimental value for the players. And that's the only thing it has over the White Sword of the Sky. The base damage is even lower, 17, and has no special abilities. Its modifier improves the weapon's base damage when it's wet, something that isn't very convenient but could be very useful in certain situations.

Nostalgia can make it work, plus players can still fuse it, but not many heroes can survive out there with just the Sword of the Hero. At least it's very easy to find; it's inside a chest near a giant hollowed tree in the Depths, specifically in Dalite Grove, and it also comes with the amiibo.

10 Sea-Breeze Boomerang

One Of The Most Underrated Weapons

Sea breeze boomerang
  • Base Damage: 16
  • It can be found in the Depths

The other part of The Wind Waker set also has a very low base damage at 16. However, this is a one-handed boomerang that can come in handy for fights when it's more interesting to keep one's distance. With the Tears of the Kingdom Recall ability, a boomerang should always have a place in the inventory. Being one-handed and legendary only adds to the mix. It can be found in a chest in the Depths near the Hebra Canyon Mine.

Tears of the Kingdom is a sequel to Zelda's Breath of the Wild, but some characters and aspects of the game could have used more screen time.

Given how much fun boomerangs are to use in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, it's easy to see why players will love this weapon to bits. With proper aim and fusions, this weapon can make combat more dynamic and engaging for players willing to go about things in a different way.

9 Dusk Claymore

Shiny And Powerful But Hard To Handle

dusk claymore
  • Base Damage: 32
  • Reward for completing the side adventure "Investigate the Thyphlo Ruins" or scanning the Ganondorf Amiibo

It's not one of the greatest legendary weapons despite its beautiful shape. The Dusk Claymore is a two-handed sword with 32 base damage and no special traits to it. It could be good in the early stages of the game, but there are many better options available to players. Still, the allure of using a unique two-handed weapon with high damage shouldn't be ignored.

Despite being a reference to Twilight Princess, it doesn't add anything unique to the mix. It does, at least, have better base damage in comparison to the previous ones. Players can get this weapon through the Ganondorf amiibo or by completing the side adventure "Investigate the Thyphlo Ruins", which is quite an interesting side mission.

8 Biggorons Sword

Great Durability And Decent Base Damage

biggoron sword
  • Base Damage: 36
  • Reward for defeating Stalnox at the Akkala House of Bones or by scanning the Young Link Amiibo or the Ocarina of Time Adult Link Amiibo

From this point on, things start to get interesting. The Biggorons Sword is the first weapon to present a reliable attack power, having a more than decent 36 base damage. This weapon can make a difference very early on in the game by just its base attack, but being fused with a good material allows it to achieve amazing durability apart from an improved strength. It's also very easy to get.

Two amiibos, Young Link and Ocarina of Time Adult Link, can get players this weapon, plus it can be found in a chest at the Akkala House of Bones after defeating the Stalnox.

7 Lightscale Trident

Speed And Great Maneuverability

lightscale trident
  • Base Damage: 22
  • Reward for completing the side quest "Glory of the Zora"
  • Weapon Modifier: Water Warrior

The legendary spear of the Zora doesn't need much of a presentation. Its base damage is very low, 22, but it goes up to 50 thanks to the passive ability of Water Warrior. It activates by getting the trident wet, which is when this weapon should be wielded.

Players spend most of their Tears of the Kingdom playthroughs gathering the Sages as allies, and they all prove to be worth it in some way.

On top of that, the Lightscale Trident is very quick, even for a spear, allowing for a quick succession of attacks that will overwhelm the opponents. This mighty weapon is the prize after completing the side quest "Glory of the Zora," a very easy side quest.

6 Scimitar Of The Seven

Powerful And Lightning-Quick Attacks

scimitar of the seven
  • Base Damage: 28
  • Reward for completing the side quest "The Missing Owner"
  • Passive Ability: Strong Fusion

One of the prettiest designs, while also being as quick as Gerudo's lightning, the Scimitar of the Seven is one of the most interesting weapons in the game. It has a base damage of 28, but it greatly increases by fusing it with any object thanks to the ability of Strong Fusion.

For example, if players fuse it with a Molduga jaw, it jumps to a staggering 92. It's definitely worth the struggle of its long quest "The Missing Owner", which will also allow fans to acquire its pair, at the bottom of the list, the Daybreaker.

5 Dusk Bow

Unlimited Powerful Bow

dusk bow
  • Base Damage: 30
  • It can be found at Hyrule Castle, where it will respawn with every blood moon

The bow is so overpowered when used properly in Tears of the Kingdom that it makes it an automatic valuable weapon. But if that wasn't enough, the Dusk Bow comes with a 30 base damage adding to its high-velocity type.

It's one of the best bows in the game and fairly easy to find. The only issue with the two legendary bows is that there aren't many non-legendary ones that are better, but other than that, they are great additions to the inventory. It's tricky to find, as it lies in some rubble near the highest tower of Hyrule Castle. The best part is that it will respawn with every blood moon, so it means unlimited bows. No reason to save it for tough enemies.

4 Great Eagle Bow

Unstoppable And Deadly Arrows

great eagle bow
  • Base Damage: 28x3
  • Available to craft after completing the main quest, "Tulin of the Rito Village"

The other legendary bow is the one that belongs to the Orni Champion. The Great Eagle Bow has a base damage of 28 shooting three arrows, which makes it deadly while also having great durability. It has a high price (3 diamonds), but it's more than worth it.

Looking outside the legendary weapons, it might be interesting to consider other bows, such as the Royal Guard's Bow or the Savage Lynel Bow, which is the same type but with better base damage. To get Revali's bow, the first requirement is to clear out the blizzard affecting the village. After that, Teba will ask for a list of materials needed to craft the weapon.

3 Boulder Breaker

It Just Breaks Everything

Boulder breaker
  • Base Damage: 38
  • Reward for completing the side quest "Soul of the Gorons"
  • Passive Ability: Demolisher

The last of the Champion's weapons gets the podium finish. The Boulder Breaker is a heavy sword with a 38 base damage and the passive ability Demolisher. It's simply the best weapon for exploration because it will break through anything swiftly.

It has good combat prowess, too. A must-have in one's inventory that will save players all the struggle of pushing through blue rocks in caves while also being reliable against enemies, sending them flying with ease. Players can get this weapon after completing the side quest "Soul of the Gorons."

2 Fierce Deity Sword

Comes With The Coolest Armor

fierce deity sword
  • Base Damage: 38
  • Reward for completing the side quest "Misko's Treasure: The Fierce Deity"

With the best of the rest title comes the Fierce Deity Sword. Like the Boulder Breaker, the Fierce Deity Sword is a heavy sword with 38 base damage. It lacks a special ability. However, it makes up for that deficiency by being quick for a two-handed weapon, improving greatly when fused, and being arguably the best-looking weapon in Tears of the Kingdom.

The Fierce Deity Sword can carry players through the entire game. To get this beautiful sword and the set of armor, players will need to complete the quest "Misko's Treasure: The Fierce Deity".

1 Master Sword

The Only Sword Suited For The Hero

zelda holiding the master sword
  • Base Damage: 30 (60 for Gloom-infused enemies)
  • It can be obtained after completing the main quest, "Dragon's Tears"
  • Passive Ability: Revitalized Sword of Legend

Of course, the Master Sword deserves special recognition. Only due to its virtually unbreakable nature does it deserve the spot, but even more so considering the huge plot line it builds after succumbing to the decay at the start of the game.

It has a base damage of around 30 although it's not displayed in the game. The master sword is amazing for a one-handed sword, and can also be fused with other materials like any other weapon in the game. It's certainly an overpowered implement. After consuming all its durability it will take 10 minutes for it to fully recharge. The flow of the game's story will lead the players to eventually find the Master Sword on the Light Dragon's head.
