According to freshly released figures from the industry research firm known as SuperData, not only is the Nintendo Switch selling quite well, but also The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is as well, with nearly everyone purchasing the console buying a copy of the open world action-adventure, too. As it happens, Nintendo has reportedly sold around 1.5 million Switch consoles worldwide, with approximately 89% of the console's owners purchasing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well.

Breaking down these numbers, it means that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 's sales translate to 9 out of 10 Switch owners buying the game, resulting in roughly 1.34 million copies sold thus far, as the title is definitely the primary driver of the console's sales. Plus, it's worth distinguishing that the sales numbers for the game only relate to the Switch version, and not the Wii U iteration, which was released on the same date.

To be more accurate, it's important to note that the majority of the numbers provided by SuperData in relation to the Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are connected to first week sales. SuperData used information supplied to it by both Famitsu and GfK, with the research firm saying that 500,000 consoles were sold in the US, 360,000 were sold in Japan, with Europe not being too "far behind." In fact, the data tracking company has revealed that 85,000 Switch consoles were sold in the UK, with France selling 110,000.

Since these numbers from SuperData are linked to first week sales, it's highly probable that the figures offered up by the research firm are even higher now for both the Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. With this likely being the case, it's safe to presume that sales for Breath of the Wild could help Nintendo hit its target goal of selling 2 million consoles in its launch month of March.

Taking all of this into consideration, it's not too surprising to discover that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has moved so many units in relation to sales of the Nintendo Switch console. For instance, not only has the game received the most perfect review scores ever from critics on the aggregate site Metacritic, but also it was easily the strongest title out of the handful of games available at the console's launch. With any luck, Breath of the Wild will continue selling like hotcakes and will help sustain the Switch's sales credibility for the rest of March and beyond.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now for Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
