With a game as open-ended as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, there's little doubt that the gaming community will find new ways to challenge one another, as more and more players reach the game's conclusion. Now a new competition seems to have arisen, with Zelda fans attempting to find the longest possible glide that the new title has to offer - with a dedicated player setting the record by drifting for an incredible 22 minutes.

In case you were wondering, Link travelled a staggering 7,615.8 meters before finally touching down on the ground once again. This was made possible thanks to an inventory full of stamina potions, intelligent use of the the environment, and a huge amount of bomb arrows to create updrafts. Finally, the Japanese Breath of the Wild player ended their flight with one last bomb summon to send them an extra few metres before hitting the ground.

The challenge began when players discovered that Ridgeland Tower holds a quest, requiring Link to paraglide as far as he can without touching the ground. Should they impress, questgiver Branli will reward them with 100 rupees for their efforts. Of course, an amount of that size almost seems insulting when you've burned through an inventory of potions and arrows to obtain it.

This latest flight appeared on reddit, in the comments section of another impressive gliding clip. From there, fans are doing what they can to beat this record for themselves, with many claiming that the newly-crowned master of flight took a sub-optimal route which could therefore be improved upon. And judging by the amount of ways that players have been finding to skip the game's puzzles, there's certainly room for ingenuity in the latest iteration of the Zelda franchise.

Lately, gliding hasn't been the only thing on the hardcore Zelda community's mind however, and a new speedrun has set the record for beating Breath of the Wild at just over 45 minutes. The trick to beating the game faster than everyone else isn't what we'd have expected, but German fans will have been on the right track all along.

Aside from switching the language to force cutscenes to speed up, players have discovered a trick to give their horses unlimited stamina, thereby being able to run forever without the need to pause or slow down. After just under a month of being available to the public, it seems that fans are discovering more and more interesting exploits that are possible in Breath of the Wild. It's going to be interesting to watch what the Zelda community comes up with in the future.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
