The Legend of Zelda has been one of the most revered and respected franchises in all of gaming, and the latest iteration is no exception. 2017's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was an influential and successful open-world game, which doubled as a launch title for the newly released Nintendo Switch.

While fans wait out on more information about Zelda: Breath of the Wild's hotly-anticipated sequel, it seems the modding community has plans to keep the game going strong. One such mod is the Second Wind, which seemingly acts as an unofficial expansion that has raised the eyebrows of fans.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is chock-full of content, and players are discovering new techniques and secrets to this day. However, the Second Wind mod aims to add a whole lot of content to the already-expansive adventure. The mod is still in development for the Wii U version of the game, and a planned Switch port is reportedly quite some ways off.

The development of the Second Wind mod involves a bunch of developers, and the community behind the mod reportedly has over 12,000 members. 5,000 of them are beta testers for the mod, who have recently been testing the first part of the expansion, Labors of the Hero. The mod aims to add a lot of new things to the Breath of the Wild experience, all the while being cautious of not tampering too much with the base game's narrative and world.

The Second Wind mod adds a lot of new things including different side quests, armor gear, places to explore, and a whole lot more. The first half of the DLC, titled Labors of the Hero, is touted to have 15 new side quests, eight new areas,  28 new areas, 13 bosses, 20 NPCs, 35 armor pieces, and an entirely new martial arts fighting style. In addition to this, the mod plans to add weapons that do not break alongside some other quality of life improvements to the Zelda experience. That's certainly plenty of content that the team seems fixated on delivering. There is a YouTube video showcasing some of the expansion, which has fans excited for the final release.

While the second part of the mod is largely kept shrouded in mystery, the lead developer CEOBrainz has teased about the possibility of old-school Zelda dungeons, which is a fan-requested feature for the sequel. There's still some time until fans get to experience The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, and with 60 percent of the development reportedly complete for Labors of the Hero, it seems that zealous fans might have something great on the horizon.

However, fans should be aware that the mod will work on the emulated version of Wii U's version of the game. The developer has plans for bringing the mod over to the Switch side of things (emulated) but that's still a long ways away. The Legend of Zelda's amazing fan community has certainly added a lot to the game, and Second Wind seems to be well on its way to being one of the greatest fan mods of all time.
