The Legend of Zelda: Bosses With The Best Lore

The best Zelda bosses tend to be the ones with the deepest lore, as evidenced by these iconic villains from the Legend of Zelda franchise.

While certain bosses challenge their players to the fight of their life, there are some that were far less imposing when players tested their mettle. These are the bosses that should have been harder.

Water levels are known to be a source of dread for most players, as they offer challenging gameplay, and more often than not, they have to worry about drowning almost as much as the unfriendly inhabitant residing within.

The water level in Ocarina Time is a temple within the Zora's domain, and Morpha is the boss players will face at the end. Though entirely made of water, Morpha has a visible weak-point that moves through its amorphous body, which makes fighting this boss a cinch. Players can use the hookshot to continually pull Morpha towards themselves and position themseves between it and the water to quickly deal out deadly amounts of damage. The boss of the dreaded water domain should have been more of a match for Link, as it ended up being easier than the temple puzzles.

5 The Imprisoned - Skyward Sword

This Boss May be Tenacious, but Not Difficult

Skyward Sword brought the true power of the Nintendo Wii's motion controls into video game format. Though Nintendo had forayed into this before with Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword actually made gamers feel as though every move they made was mimicked on screen, providing truly immersive gameplay. One of the few Zelda games to exclude primary antagonist Ganondorf, Skyward Sword had a plethora of other bosses that should have made up for this omission.

Best Third-Person Shooters On The Wii, Ranked

The Nintendo Wii had its fair share of excellent third-person shooters, but these are among the best of the bunch.

The Imprisoned is one such boss, one which players will go toe to toe with once they reach the land beneath the clouds. He is a reoccurring boss that players need to stop before he reaches his destination, which will result in a game over just as much as taking too much damage will. Yet even with two possible ways to fail, the Imprisoned falls short in other aspects. Dealing damage to his feet to slow his movements and stop his descent altogether is far too easy, and once players have their strategy down the first time, the other two times will be no challenge at all. The Imprisoned could have been so much more.

4 Stalnox - Breath of the Wild

This Boss is Gargantuan, but it Makes it Fall all the Harder

Genre(s)
Action , Adventure

The hardest thing about this boss in Breath of the Wild is trying to find it to take it on. As an open-world game, players will need to be proactive in seeking out some of these challenges, rather than following the linear path set out in earlier Legend of Zelda titles. The Stalnox is only active during the night, and should they arrive too early, the Stalnox will not become active, so they must arrive between those hours and defeat it before sunrise.

All these requirements seem to make the Stalnox a special boss, which ought to be a tough challenge to complete, but players might be a little disappointed when they finally clash against it. It has a glaring weak point, the eyeball, which players can use to stun the creature, giving them ample time to remove a hefty chunk of its health. For all the pomp and circumstance surrounding it, Stalnox should have been much harder.

3 Marbled Gohma - Tears of the Kingdom

Despite Being a Legacy Boss, Gohma is Rather Simple

Returning from previous games such as Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker, long-time fans were no doubt hit by nostalgia when seeing a modified, yet familiar boss once more gracing their screens, clutching their controls as they wonder how much it has changed, and how much harder it will be to defeat. He does come with an impenetrable hide that melee attacks won't even scratch, and yet, this isn't enough to make Marbled Gohma a real challenge.

By taking out its legs and using Yunobo's power, players will find this boss rather anticlimactic, returning after all these years to be stunned and killed easily by the players. When recycling bosses, they should come back much harder than they were before, rather than being somewhat of a one-trick pony.

2 Kalle Demos - Wind Waker

A Glaring Exploit Makes this Fight Far too Simple

Wind Waker was a charming and cutesy Zelda game starring Link as he traveled the seas to rescue his kidnapped sister. Link would travel to many islands, delve into countless dungeons, and fight an army of all manners of beasts, some being less of a challenge than others.

These bosses can all be defeated with a single hit, but that doesn't necessarily make them easy.

Kalle Demos is one of the bosses that verge on the easier side of things, the much easier side in fact. Though one would expect the second boss of a game not be be Souslike in difficulty, one would also expect it not to die so quickly. Savvy players who are in the know would be aware of the exploit that allows the players to down it in one hit after they have forced the petals open. By pouring forest water onto the creature, they can end the fight very early on, making it rather lackluster and abrupt.

1 Ganondorf - Twilight Princess

The Final Boss Should Be the Ultimate Challenge

Platform(s)
GameCube , Wii
Released
November 19, 2006
Developer(s)

Genre(s)
Action , Adventure

Twilight Princess is often championed as the darkestLegend of Zelda game to date, thanks to its more mature story and aesthetics, as the kingdom of Hyrule slowly becomes corrupted by a perpetual twilight. Link will explore the kingdom of Hyrule and the Twilight Realm in his quest to save the kingdom, aided by a new companion by the name Midna, the ruler of the Twilight Realm.

As is custom for a Zelda game, players shall eventually cross swords with Ganondorf, in a fight that should have been one for the ages. But unfortunately, the Ganondorf fight falls a bit short, considering this is the darkest game to date. Though there are multiple stages to the fight that do grant it some unique flavor and force the player to adapt, it is far too forgiving. The attacks are telegraphed fairly obviously, so players can dodge or block ahead of time, and enter the later stages of the boss with plenty of hearts left.
