  • According to a leaker, Monolith Soft, developer of Xenoblade Chronicles series, is working on a new Nintendo game codenamed "Legacy."
  • Fans speculate Legacy could be a Xenoblade Chronicles X remaster or a new IP based on Monolith Soft's hiring ads.
  • Midori, a reliable gaming insider, clarified that Legacy is a Nintendo published title, ruling out Xenosaga remaster rumors.

A very reliable gaming insider, Midori, has revealed the codename for a brand-new Nintendo game that is currently being developed by Monolith Soft, the developers of the Xenoblade Chronicles series. Xenoblade Chronicles is one of Nintendo's most popular RPG series, and the developer behind it, Monolith Soft, has proven to be one of Nintendo's most valuable first-party studios. The developer has notably assisted Nintendo with other projects, most notably Tears of the Kingdom, optimizing the game to handle and run an open world, based on the studio's experience with the Xenoblade games.

The most recent release in Monolith Soft's library, outside of support work on other Nintendo titles, was Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and its Future Redeemed DLC. With the Xenoblade trilogy concluded, some fans are wondering what is next for the RPG developer, especially now that a new iteration of the Nintendo Switch is somewhere over the horizon. Midori, a notable insider of various Nintendo and Sega projects over the past year, claims that Nintendo and Monolith Soft are working on something new.

One of Nintendo's Most Popular RPGs Originally Never Planned an North American Release

A set of former Nintendo employees reveal that one of the company's most popular RPGs was originally planned without a North American launch.

This claim was posted on Midori's Twitter account, in response to a question about any titles that Monolith Soft could be developing for the Switch 2 console. Midori states that she was told that Monolith Soft was working on a new project codenamed "Legacy," which some people immediately began speculating on, many guessing a possible Xenosaga remaster/remake, as it was one of the studio's earliest games when it was previously under Namco's umbrella. However, Midori immediately refuted this claim, stating that Legacy is a Nintendo-published title, and not an external company, as Xenosaga isn't owned by Nintendo.

Possible Projects by Monolith Soft at Nintendo

With this in mind, fans believed a more likely project that Monolith Soft would be working on is a possible Xenoblade Chronicles X remaster or remake. Despite all three mainline Xenoblade games having been released on the Nintendo Switch, Xenoblade Chronicles X is still trapped on the Wii U console, and the Switch 2 would be a good time to bring back the spin-off.

Another project that came to mind was the possibility of a new IP by Monolith Soft, based on some recruitment ads hiring for an action game that would possibly be set in a medieval fantasy setting. Monolith Soft has been hiring new staff sometime since 2017, and employees at the studio are still apparently working on this project. That said, Midori's claim is still a rumor, and with a Nintendo Direct happening next month, it'd be best if fans took the information with a grain of salt until more information is officially revealed.
