Amazon Prime Video has revealed the first teaser trailer for the upcoming television adaptation of A League of Their Own. The new series from Broad City star Abbi Jacobson is an adaptation of the original 1992 film of the same name.

Set to Stevie Nicks' instantly recognizable hit song "Edge of Seventeen," the short teaser for Amazon Prime's A League of Their Own features lots of quick shots of the cast and characters, giving viewers a brief glimpse into how the show will look and feel. The dialogue-free teaser shows Jacobson and her co-stars hitting home runs, having drinks on the field, and dealing with their home lives. While the teaser is short and sweet, it does imply that the new series will go more in-depth than the original film on issues around race, gender, and sexuality in 1940s America.

Based on the hit 1992 film of the same name, the series is said to be a fresh approach to the real-life story of an All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The official description from Amazon Prime reads, "A League of Their Own evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall's beloved classic while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the League and outside it". Directed by the late Marshall, the original film starred Geena Davis, Rosie O'Donnell, Madonna, and the beloved Tom Hanks. Written by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel from a story by Kelly Candaele and Kim Wilson, the 1992 film was a commercial and critical success and went on to gross $132 million worldwide. In 2012, the Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry, calling it "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Co-Created by Jacobson, the series also stars Chanté Adams, D'Arcy Carden, Roberta Colindrez, Gbemisola Ikumel, Kelly McCormack, Priscilla Delgado, and Nick Offerman. Jacobson is best known for co-creating and starring in the hit comedy series Broad City, which ran for five seasons on Comedy Central. She is also known for her voice acting work in film and television, including the Netflix series Disenchantment and the 2021 Sony Pictures Animation film The Mitchells vs. The Machines. On top of her work in film and television, Jacobson is also an accomplished author. In 2018, she published a book of personal essays and short stories titled I Might Regret This: Essays, Drawings, Vulnerabilities, and Other Stuff.

While the first teaser for A League of Their Own doesn't offer too much in the way of plot details, it does give viewers a taste of what's to come. Retelling the story as a series will likely give Jacobson and her co-writers more time to explore the characters, as well as issues and subjects that were less prevalent in the original film. It's impossible to predict the plot of the series, but the trailer alone features a lot of very flirtatious looks between the characters, so hopefully, fans can expect a more inclusive and Queer-friendly version of the story. Happy Pride, everyone.

A League of Their Own will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on August 12th, 2022.
