Highlights

  • Season 13 brings about a strong and impactful bot lane meta in League of Legends, making it one of the best carry positions in the game.
  • Trinity Force is currently the top build option for champions in the bot lane, with lethality builds also proving to be strong.
  • Champions like Jinx, Miss Fortune, and Ashe are all viable and have their own strengths and weaknesses in the bot lane meta.

The League of Legends community has long argued over the impact and strength of the bot lane, with many thinking the role lacks agency in the current state of the game. However, Season 13’s bot lane meta has been rife with overpowered builds such as the notorious lethality Caitlyn and oppressive AP Kai’sa, arguably making the bot lane at present one of the best carry positions, out-shining even the mid-lane.

MOBAs have been popular for a while, and the following MOBA games are considered the best of all time in the genre.

Currently, Trinity Force seems to be the best build option in the bot lane, putting any champions that are viable to build it at the top of the meta. Additionally, lethality builds with a focus on building Youmuu’s Ghostblade also seem to be strong. However, while some crit-building champions remain reliable pick options, such as Jinx, many simply can’t compete with the Tri-Force meta. This article covers bot lane champions in League of Legends’ Patch 13.21.

7 Jinx

The Loose Cannon

Jinx's scaling continues to be unmatched.

Arcane’s darling got hit with a nerf in Patch 13.21 yet remains a viable pick thanks to her brilliant scaling and fantastic passive, Get Excited! Excelling at snowballing in team fights, Jinx requires a little bit of help to get going, but once she does, she is almost unstoppable. As one of the few meta champions in the bot lane building critical damage, Jinx’s core build consists of Stormrazer into Galeforce.

Unfortunately for Jinx, she falls short of the other meta champions due to crit-damage items being largely inferior in their current state. Still, The Loose Cannon is capable of running away with the game with just a little push from her teammates. To build a lead, Jinx should ideally team up with a hard-engage support such as Nautilus, Braum, or Leona to help lock down an enemy while she builds up attack speed with Pow-Pow and Lethal Tempo.

6 Jhin

The Virtuoso

Jhin equipped with Youmuu’s Ghostblade is like butter on toast.

Jhin is one of two champions still consistently utilizing Youmuu’s Ghostblade in Patch 13.21. While his early damage output isn’t as powerful as most bot laners, Jhin’s late-game scaling makes him a threat on the Rift. Youmuu’s active, Wraith Step, alongside Jhin’s passive, Whisper, gives him insane movement speed in fights which allows him to easily kite opponents, whittling them down with his utility spells before taking them out with his fourth-shot.

Most Jhin players opt to take Youmuu’s Ghostblade into Boots of Swiftness for that crazy mobility, then take The Collector to execute opponents more swiftly with Jhin’s fourth-shot. Good lane partners to support Jhin and help him scale into the game faster are artillery mages such as Vel’koz and Xerath, or high-damage supports such as Senna, Zyra, and Swain.

5 Twitch

The Plague Rat

Looks like poison's back on the menu.

On-hit Twitch is back in the meta, with The Plague Rat running Blade Of The Ruined King as a first item into Runaan’s Hurricane. These two items, when applied to his ultimate ability Spray and Pray, shred through Twitch’s opponents during team fights. Using Twitch’s Q, Ambush, players have found the most success in this patch flanking the enemy team before tearing them to shreds with a volley of poison.

While not as versatile a pick as some of the other champions listed, Twitch has a favorable win rate versus a few of the other meta champions, such as Jinx, Jhin, and even Ezreal. Twitch is also the perfect champion to pick into immobile team compositions due to the slow on his W, Venom Cask, paired with the annihilating damage on his ultimate. These two abilities used in combination with his flanking tactics are a sure-fire way to secure victory.

4 Miss Fortune

The Bounty Hunter

There's a new Queen of lethality.

The fall of lethality Caitlyn saw the rise of Miss Fortune, snatching the title of best lethality ADC in Patch 13.21. Building Youmuu’s Ghostblade into The Collector, Miss Fortune’s basic attacks and Q, Double Up, obliterate squishy opponents with ease, making her great for skirmishing enemy ADCs. Double Up is also an oppressive poke-ability in lane, and is useful for threatening the enemy off their own back-line.

Double Up is a two-part ability that applies a second shot of damage to an enemy, prioritizing champions, behind the first target. If the primary opponent is slayed by Double Up, the second part does tons of additional damage. Miss Fortune’s ultimate ability, Bullet Time, is a fantastic team-fight ult that deals massive damage to opponents, often eliminating enemy ADCs, squishy supports, and mid-laners in seconds, making her a great team-fighting champion.

3 Ezreal

The Prodigal Explorer

Ezreal is the Patron Saint of burst damage.

Ezreal has been a trailblazer and an avid user of Trinity Force for several seasons, building the item before it became cool in Season 13. His Q ability, Mystic Shot, uses Tri-Force’s passive extremely well, allowing him to chunk enemies safely from afar. In combination with his W spell, Essence Flux, which marks a target and increases the damage of Ezreal’s next basic attack or ability, Ezreal is a monster at bursting opponents.

On top of this, Ezreal is one of the safest bot laners in the game due to his blink, Arcane Shift, making him incredibly hard to catch out in team-fights. Using Arcane Shift to reposition to safety in fights, Ezreal does best when paired with other artillery champions such as Lux and Xerath, as he doesn’t rely on his support for safety as much as other ADCs.

2 Ashe

The Frost Archer

When are ice arrows ever a bad thing?

Back in Season 5, Ashe saw massive changes to her kit that turned her from a feeble archer into a deadly ice queen. Since then, these changes have made Ashe a reliable champion throughout the ever-changing meta. In Season 13, Ashe reclaimed her throne as one of the best ADCs in the game, happily finding her place among the pre-season item changes, while many others fell off.

League of Legends can be a challenge to learn for new players but becomes far easier when using these champions.

In Patch 13.21, Ashe continues to dominate the bot lane with a flurry of ice-arrows, thanks to her prevailing core-build of Kraken’s Slayer into Trinity Force. With huge pick-potential in her ultimate ability, Enchanted Crystal Arrow, and insane self-peel from her passive, Frost Shot, Ashe remains a top pick in the Season 13 meta.

1 Vayne

The Night Hunter

The deceptively-simple Wayne is one of the current meta's top builds.

Vayne tumbled into the meta this patch with a new build prioritizing a Statikk Shiv, or Stormrazer, rush into Trinity Force. This build gives Vayne extremely potent bursting power, making her first attack do huge damage and quickly shred high-priority opponents. On top of this, with a built-in three-hit max-health true-damage passive on her W, Silver Bolts, Vayne is thriving in the current tank meta.

With strong self-peel, and invisibility on her R, Final Hour, Vayne is a difficult champion to get onto and can easily out-play and defeat opponents, including assassins. While The Night Hunter’s kit is relatively simple on paper, in the hands of a highly-skilled player, she’s a force to be reckoned with.
