After seven years of waiting, The Last of Us Part II is finally out to give gamers the next chapter in the iconic zombie-survival franchise. Fans of the The Last of Us are completely split on how they feel about this new installment, yet one thing is for sure, the game had a handful of some very harrowing and memorable quotes throughout its long story.

Both veteran and new characters in The Last of Us Part II cast deliver some great performances, with all of them featuring quotes that fans of the new game will surely remember for a long time to come.

10 "If I Ever Were To Lose You, I'd Surely Lose Myself"

Joel didn't have very much dialogue in this game to the remorse of many, however, he did have some memorable moments with Ellie early on– especially with him singing and playing guitar. Joel sings a cover of Pearl Jam's "Future Days" to Ellie that includes the line, "If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself." Fans of the game know this statement is true for both Ellie and Joel and Ellie also sings this line later on in the game, making the quote even more special.

9 "'I'll Make Her Pay,' That's What You Said When We Got Back To Jackson... What A Joke"

Tommy proved how talented of a soldier he really was throughout The Last of Us Part II. Despite his heroics throughout the game, he is bested by Abby in the end and is shot in the head, making players assume he is dead. He arrives at Ellie's home later on with a new lead about Abby, but Ellie and Dina aren't up for it. He storms out of the house and says to Ellie, "'I'll make her pay,' that's what you said in Jackson... what a joke."

8 "If Somehow The Lord Gave Me A Second Chance At That Moment, I Would Do It All Over Again"

This is a quote from Joel during the game that was unexpected, considering how much Ellie resents him for not letting her die and become the cure for the virus at the end of the first game. As they discuss those moments in Part 2, Joel says "If somehow the Lord gave me a second chance at that moment, I would do it all over again." Ellie looks back at Joel with pure betrayal, considering she already told him she wishes things were different

7 "I'm Just A Girl, Not A Threat" – "Oh Ellie, I Think They Should Be Terrified Of You"

Ellie and Dina raise a family together during the second half of the game, so it's interesting to see what first sparked their relationship together. A flashback shows them dancing at a party in which Ellie realizes some of the boys in the room are looking at them. Dina thinks they may be jealous, making Ellie say "I'm just a girl, not a threat." Dina then responds with "Oh Ellie, I think they should be terrified of you" as the two share their first kiss.

6 "You Can't Stop This"

Ellie The Last of Us part 2

Despite being completely outnumbered in every encounter, Ellie stands her ground. This really shows when she is captured by the Wolves faction and questioned. With a knife to her throat, she is asked how many people she has with her, Ellie responds with "You can't stop this," making her capturer reconsider his next action for a few more seconds. This gives Dina just enough time to swoop in and give Ellie a chance at escape.

5 "I Can't Let You Leave"

The ending of The Last of Us Part II is incredibly divisive among fans, for good reason too. Ellie saves Abby and Lev from their captive state and it seems as though Abby and Ellie will both go their separate ways. Ellie has a flashback of Joel's death and says to Abby, "I can't let you leave," as a brutal fight ensues between the two. Ellie ends up letting Abby go, which angered the many people who wanted revenge for Joel right then and there.

4 "Please Stop!"

Maybe the most harrowing quote from The Last of Us Part II comes when Ellie yells out for Abby to not kill Joel. Her "Please stop" was not answered by Abby, as Ellie is forced to watch the gruesome display. Franchise fans are huge fans of Joel, so seeing this happen along with Ellie begging Abby to stop made for one of Part 2's most memorable scenes. It also added fuel to the fire as players instantly would instantly want to get revenge alongside Ellie.

3 "We Could Have Killed You" – "Maybe You Should Have"

Despite being forced to watch Joel be killed, Ellie is spared along with Tommy by the Wolves (WLF) faction. Later on in the story, Ellie finds one of the people who was responsible for Joel's death. Greatly surprised, the WLF soldier says "We could have killed you," in which Ellie responds "Maybe you should have." It was one of the better moments in the game when that soldier, and ultimately the rest of Joel's killers, realized they never should have let Ellie go.

There is a flashback is shown during the game that reveals what happened between some Fireflies before Ellie's surgery. Marlene (from the first game) and Abby's dad discuss if they can really go through with killing Ellie for the cure to save mankind. Abby enters the room and tells her dad, "If it was me, I'd want you to do the surgery." This gives players more insight into Abby's life, helping justify her actions while giving her more development.

1 "My Death Would Have Meant Something"

Joel and Ellie talking

Joel and Ellie do not share the same laughs and banter throughout the second game that they did in the first. Granted, the pair don't spend nearly as much time together as they did in the original game. Most of their conversations are spent discussing what happened with the Fireflies at the end of Part 1. Ellie says to Joel that her "death would have meant something" if he didn't save her, as she feels as though her life is worthless now because of him.
