After a very notable absence from Sony's E3 line-up last year, Last Of Us Part 2 is easily one of the most anticipated games at this years conference. Considering the level of hype surrounding the new installment, it's no surprise that Sony decided to make the game one of it's primary focuses at the showcase, giving fans their first look at gameplay on the PS4 Pro.

The gameplay shows players finally taking control of Ellie, after spending the first game at the helm of her guardian Joel. It appears the story concerns the older Ellie going going up against the cult-like militia seen in the previous trailer. The combat looks more brutal and and severe than the previous game, with Ellie sporting a variety of weapons from a bow and arrow, to a pistol and machete. The camera movements work also seem to be getting an update, moving more intensely than ever before.

It's been close to 5 years since fans were introduced to Ellie and Joel, and around a year and a half since we first got word that a Last Of Us sequel was on the way. Until now, Naughty Dog had played their cards close to their chests, only releasing an couple of cinematic trailers. One the trailers that released, first shown at Paris Game Week last year, didn't actually feature Joel or Ellie, sidelining the original protagonists for brand new characters. The trailer was so brutal and dark that it sparked an outcry regarding its violent content.

Of course, these trailers did exactly what was intended and fans are even more eager to return to Naughty Dog's mutant infested world. For their part, the team at the fan favorite studio seems just as excited for players to experience it as fans are. Based on what we saw today, Troy Bakers glowing assessment of the game was kind of an understatement and hopefully, we won't be waiting much longer.
