In spite of many fans review bombing the title, The Last of Us Part 2 has broken a very impressive sales record in the UK. On Twitter, Christopher Dring broke the news that the second chapter of the horror series has become the PS4's fastest-selling game in the region.

The Last of Us 2 released amidst a lot of controversy and unhappy Last of Us fans unhappy, but the game has still been highly anticipated after the strong story of the first game. The first title was released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3, with a lot of features that made horror fans fall in love. So when Naughty Dog announced part 2 of the series, tons of fans were ready for more of Joel and Ellie.

Last of Us 2 is now the fastest selling PlayStation 4 game of all time in the UK, beating out Naughty Dog's prior title, Uncharted 4, "in boxed sales alone." It sold faster than even the very popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is the fastest-selling Switch game. Last of Us 2 sold 76% higher than the first of the series, launching this sequel into real, record-breaking territory.

With a mixture of beautiful graphics and complex storytelling, Last of Us 2 is a major undertaking for Naughty Dog and one of its most ambitious titles to-date. The risks associated with the game seem to have paid off, though, considering the early sales numbers in just the UK.

There has been some controversy on the way to the top, however. Controversy has followed the game since gameplay leaked online and only grew after numerous criticisms were raised against the game. Some of the criticisms can be justified while others are a little more far-fetched, like the director self-inserting into the Last of Us 2 story. It's pretty obvious from the review bombing that some players aren't happy with aspects of the story, so it will be interesting to see what type of long-term sales the game can muster.

Last of Us 2 is available for PlayStation 4.
