This is due to them being the rarest and most powerful items in Last Epoch, offering huge buffs and perks that can make your build much more viable in comparison to one that utilizes more commonly sourced items. How to Get Unique Items in Last Epoch, Explained
In Last Epoch, Unique Items are rare and powerful drops that provide significantly useful buffs, perks, or abilities when equipped as a part of your build. If you're struggling to understand how to tell Unique Items apart from regular items, they can be identified by their orange-colored border and text. However, obtaining Unique Items isn't always as straightforward as picking up other loot, especially if there are certain Unique Items that you are attempting to target for collection.
The first way in which you can obtain Unique Items is by defeating enemies as you progress through the game. Much like normal loot drops, each Unique Item has a chance of varying percentage to appear when taking down opponents. Some Unique Items may have a more frequent chance of dropping in certain timelines, areas, or specific bosses, while others may be bound to level 100 Monoliths.
Empowered Timelines
You can target-farm for specific item types in the Empowered Timelines, which will unlock once you have successfully beaten every timeline at least once. Empowered Timelines will all be level 100, start with 100 corruption, and each has a specific weapon type associated with them. In Empowered Timelines, not only will there be an increased chance of these Unique Items to drop, but you will also be able to encounter exclusive Empowered-only Items, which will drop when defeating bosses.
Rune of Ascendance
The second way to obtain Unique Items in Last Epoch is by utilizing the crafting item known as the Rune of Ascendance. Using a Rune of Ascendance on an item of any rarity will transform the item into a random Unique or set of the same type. For example, using a Rune of Ascendance on a Dagger will transform into any Unique or set Dagger that has a possibility of randomly dropping.

What to Do With Unique Items in Last Epoch, Explained
Unique Items are incredibly valuable due to the power and utility they can add to any Class. More often than not, Unique Items will significantly amplify the strengths of your build, especially when paired with certain Skills or Node selections to create a playstyle or strategy. Some builds even revolve around the addition of Unique Items, further implying the importance they can bring to Last Epoch's Mastery builds. For this reason, it's always worth picking these items up, even if they won't synergize well with your Class. In this case, you can simply sell it off to a merchant, as Unique Items also tend to have a much higher value, meaning you can still benefit from them in some format.
Using Unique Items To Craft Legendary Items
Alternatively, you can also use Unique Items to craft Legendary Items. To do this, you will need to discover and obtain a Unique Item with Legendary Potential, which is determined by random chance. Unique Items that contain this property can have affixes added to them, converting them into a Legendary item. Affixes are found on Exalted Items, which can be identified by the distinctive purple border and text.
Alternatively, you may not need the addition of an Exalted Item in the case that you find a Unique Item with the Weaver's Will property. Unique Items with Weaver's Will are capable of gaining and upgrading affixes simply by being wielded and utilized. The more you use a Weaver's Will weapon, the more XP it will gain, therefore presenting more opportunities to upgrade or add affixes. This will continue until no more WIll remains on the weapon, leaving it in its final form.
To create Legendary weapons through this process, you will first need to complete the Temporal Sanctum Dungeon, which can be unlocked with a Temporal Sanctum Key. The latter item has a random chance of dropping, particularly from Timeline Bosses. After unlocking the Temporal Sanctum Dungeon, you will need to work your way through the dungeon and defeat Julra, a Nagasa boss. In the room next to where this battle takes place, there is a large structure called the Eternity Cache, which you can interact with to craft Legendary Weapons once per run of the dungeon.
