Kuroko's Basketball is chock-full of talented players, but none quite so gifted as the Generation of Miracles. This elite group of basketball prodigies came together at Teikō Junior High, and the ultimate team was born. There's the unpredictable Aomine, the copycat Kise, the hulking Murasakibara, the accurate Midorima, the phantom Kuroko, and Seijūrō Akashi, their terrifying leader, and oracle.

Akashi is intense, driven and proud. He knows the power of his abilities, and makes sure that those around him know it as well. As captain of the Generation of Miracles and Rakuzan High, Akashi Teikō is undoubtedly a fierce leader. His means of leadership, however, can be interpreted as questionable.

Akashi's Childhood

akashi childhood edit

Akashi was born into a wealthy family, as the firstborn son. His father was a strict man who pressured Akashi to achieve excellence, as was his obligation as a member of a noble family. As a young boy, his father imposed rigorous training in everything from music to sport to academics. His mother, on the other hand, was his respite amidst this pressure. She was a kind woman, who introduced basketball to Akashi. She convinced her husband to grant Akashi some free time in between his studies. He showed a gift for basketball, and it made him happy that he got to play in his spare time. His skill level also naturally progressed.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Akashi's mother fell sick and passed away while he was in elementary school. His father became even more strict after this. He grew up a very unhappy child. Not only was he grieving over his mother, but he had to obey his father's demands to master the skills on his ever-growing list. Everytime he mastered one, he had to master another. According to his father, Akashi men must excel in all fields, like arms and letters.

Akashi's Ascension to Captain

When Akashi joined Teikō Junior High as a freshman, he decided to join the basketball club. The rest of the Generation of Miracles, excluding Kise, are also freshmen at this point, and they all were at basketball tryouts. It is clear that Teikō takes basketball very seriously, as their school has a reputation for having a strong team. After a test to gage the strengths and skills of the freshmen, the strings were announced. Kuroko managed to secure a place on the third string team, but to everyone's surprise, four freshmen managed to make the first string team, a feat that isn't usually achieved. The lucky four were Murasakibara, Aomine, Midorima, and of course, Akashi. The tests weren't particularly difficult for him, as he was used to intense physical training, courtesy of his father's desire for all-rounded perfection.

One day, Akashi, Midorima and Murasakibara walked in on Aomine and Kuroko practicing. Akashi noticed Kuroko's passion and constant practice to improve, even equating it to that of a veteran. However, he said that he feels nothing when he looks at him, a lack of presence.

Akashi sees potential in Kuroko, telling him that this invisibility of sorts can be greatly weaponized. Three months later, Kuroko has finally understood what Akashi meant and learned how to use his diminishing presence during a basketball match. He is a brilliant passer, and the fact that he practically disappears on the court became his signature style of play. Akashi's advice managed to secure Kuroko a place on the first string team. Akashi guided Kuroko throughout his time at the first string, helping him adjust to the overwhelming power of the team.

The current captain of the basketball team, Shūzō Nijimura, eventually decided to relinquish his role as captain when Kise ultimately joined the first string. His father was hospitalized for a while, and even though his condition was stable, it was unsure what it will be in the future when Nationals begin. Nijimura then told Akashi that he would be the captain from now on. With the whole team assembled and Akashi as the captain, the first string is now what we know today as the Generation of Miracles.

Akashi's Dual Personality

akashi seijuro's emperor eyes

Akashi is depicted with heterochromatic eyes, one red and the other orange. His eye color is indicative of his split personality. This dual persona was born from balancing his gruelling home schedule and his elementary school time. The old red-eyed Akashi was still as determined to win as current Akashi, but treated his teammates in a more respectful manner.

Heterochromatic-eyed Akashi awakened when his Emperor Eye ability kicked in. This Akashi is intense, intimidating and harsh; he even tried to stab Kagami with a pair of scissors. When he was in second year, the first string won their second national championship in a row. The team's victorious streak was glorious, until the coach fell ill. After this, the team's main motivation was great desire to win. Akashi's teammates also started to blossom into their own individual players with their own talents, which made them harder to control. Ultimately, victory became Akashi's burden and obligation. He feared that his team would outgrow him, which permanently stamped out the joy he used to find in basketball. His solace in the sport was gone, which created this new Akashi.

The old Akashi lies deep down in Akashi's consciousness. The current Akashi brought home Teikō's third national championship. Even if the old Akashi returned, the new one will still exist as a substitution, not a replacement.

Apart from other skills, Akashi's signature play is the Emperor Eye. This describes Akashi's ability to predict his opponents next moves. His eyes negate every move on the court, from offence to defense. Heartbeat, breath, sweat, muscle contraction; there is nothing Akashi's Emperor Eye does not see. In other words, Akashi can see the future of his opponent's moves. Nothing get's past Akashi, which makes him a terrifying force to be reckoned with on the court.
